Will vzw let me buy a pre paid phone and put it on my act in place of a phone already in use?

I believe prepaid phones need to be active as prepaid for atleast 30 days (maybe 60)

+1 at the 6 month mark. Otherwise everyone would do it when their phone broke. You can pick up a decent prepaid phone for less than 50 bucks.

Not trying to stir the pot, but I've seen someone activate a prepaid phone on a postpaid acct right out of the box. Then again, at that same time the guy bought a second phone to do it with and it wouldn't work.

For the most part, its one of those things that's a policy and not a technical limitation; and before someone tries to go and say its Verizon trying to control the world, other carriers have similar policies...

There is one that I've seen activated on a post paid acct right out of the box but I can't remember which one. Its a slider with a full keyboard. Anyway, why shouldn't CDMA customers have this option? GSM customers can pick up a pre paid phone any time and just pop their SIM card into it and they are good to go. It should be as easy for CDMA customers who break their phones and don't want to pay $400 or more retail for a new phone to get by until their next upgrade.

I totally agree. There have been times when I have wished I had a SIM card instead so that I could just stick it into another phone, and have it work. But I also prefer cdma because now if someone steals my phone, I can call vzw and report it stolen, and then they can't use it

Prepaid device will need to be active for 6 months and then prepaid needs to give you a code to unlock it for a post paid account.

Sounds like it would be smarter just to keep an old phone...
