I called them today to complain about my Storm 9530 dimming when transitioning from portrait to lancscape mode. I am currently on OS 5.0.0.328
I was about to ask if there is going to be a solution to this anytime soon because if not I will revert back to the 5.0.0.419 OS which has been out from MTS and now Bell Mobility. Well, before I could go into this she says and I quote," I have not heard of this problem happening on these phones before". ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!!!!!!!!!!!
How in the world can she not know this. I then explained that on Crackberry it seems this is a huge problem with this OS release as well as the previous release. Well she ask if I would like to do a total wipe on the phone and then reinstall the OS as this should help. Sure why not waste my time. So I wipe, reinstal and everything is fine now. NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So now they are going to send me another phone to try. I am afraid to get another phone as I hear horror stories about these refurb phones having other problems when they arrive and the rest of my phone works great.
Has anyone had this issue resolved by getting a replacement phone.
If so please post so I know wheather its worth it or not to swap phones.

That's kind of passing the buck, isn't it? If I sell and install a Blu-ray DVD player and it will not play a specific DVD or if I program automation in a client's house, I do not refer the client back to the manufacturer for service. I take care of the client. If VZW sells a device and does not work properly on a VZW approved OS, VZW needs to take responsibility. We are not buying our devices from RIM, Motorola, or whoever. We are buying from VZW and they need to hold the munufacturer accountable for product failure.

But if he is upset with a Tech rep for VZW because she does not read Crackberry and has no idea of certain software issues, he can go to the source. Because if you read his post, VZW did take care of it, by giving him another phone.

Yet again, Verizon didn't develop the software.. so why should the techs have to try and find a fix for the software issue? Vzw doesn't have people that develop RIM's software. Just because they officially released an OS doesn't mean isht. All they did was take the best, newest software version from RIM and make it available to the public so that they can upgrade the OS without voiding their warranty. If you don't like the fact that the screen dims in landscape, call rim and b**** because no one at verizon has a software patch to fix it... not unless RIM gives them one to release. That's the way it is whether you like it or not. Sorry to break the news because appearantly you missed that.

I certainly didn't mean to start a war here. I was actually just looking for an answer to whether or not anyone has had a storm 9530 replaced recently that fixed the dimming issue with th 5.0.0.328 OS.
Now as far as who should be there for me when I have a problem with my phone it is VERIZON. They are the ones who are supposed to be trained to handle these problems and if needed replace the phone. I send Verizon money every month not RIM. If I called RIM and told them I had an issue with my phone they would direct me to call my carrier anyway.
I was amazed that the tech from Verizon didn't know about this issue because its nothing new. It was here since 2 upgrades ago and its still not fixed. I understand that not everyone reads Crackberry but maybe they should. If their tech department has to give clearance before Verizon will release an update for the phone then they should now what its faults are.

Vzw is a joke! Before I bought my storm I called vzw to ask some questions about the device and they transferred me to a blackberry "expert" my question was if the apps you bought for the device were stored on the Sd card, he said yes they are stored on the card so if you buy a 16 gig card then you will have more room for apps. Hmmmm...............yet another example that the vzw reps have no idea what the **** they are talking about.

What's your profession? Don't lie.. we know this is the internet and your intent is to look cool in front of your cyber buddies, but really - what do you do for a living?

Then ask yourself - when you first started that job did you know everything? Did you ever make a mistake? (if you say no, then you're lieing)

Put that in perspective and then call your entire company a joke, because you are human and you can be wrong every now and then.

I find you statement interesting. All the apps purchased from appworld I have, are stored on my sd card. They are archived, but there. This is done so you can reinstall an app quickly after you wipe a device.

So was this rep far from wrong? I do not think so. Even if you put all your apps on an SD card, you have never been run them from there.

Tables turned? maybe or maybe not.

Right...VZW did not develop the software. But, VZW deems this software fit enough to sell...correct? After all, what good is a Blackberry without an OS. Or is VZW selling a device they know has a problematic OS and not being up front about it? Storm anyone?

Let me say I DO NOT think it is the job of CS or tech support to fix a faulty OS. I DO think it is VZW's responsibility to sell a product that the buying public can rely on and not be referred to the company that developed the software when there is a problem. I have lost count of how many times I have read in these threads about referring someone to RIM about a software issue. We're not RIM customers, we're VZW customers. Also, isn't there a "vendor file" in that software that says "VZW"?

If my Curve 8330 is representative, there is no way VZW makes available the "best, newest software version" to us. OS 4.5.0.138 on an 8330...pos. The "latest" OS for the 8330 (.175) has a chirp in the background when you talk on the phone. There are guys on this site doing a better job with piecing together a hybrid OS than RIM and VZW can put together.

The problem is not CS or tech support. Personally, I respect the effort you guys (and gals) put forth from the trenches. I do not respect the position your company (VZW) sometimes puts you in. As I see it, the problem is how VZW (and maybe the mobile industry as a whole) brings a product to market that is only partially ready to be sold to the buying public. The newest, latest device is sold at a premium and is then debugged by those paying the most for it, with your help. But if there is an OS issue, call RIM.

In my company, I have a specialist for everything that we do. For various reasons, there are products that I won't support and services that I won't provide. Maybe VZW needs a RIM OS support team. With all their money, they could do it. When I was growing up my Dad always said, "son, if you're going to do something, do it right or don't do it at all." When it comes to dealing with BB OS issues, VZW is not doing it right, they're passing the buck if the answer is call RIM with an OS issue.

There is no stipulation saying that you have to buy a phone from a VZW store, website, or rep over the phone to have service with them. It simply has to have the VZW symbol on it. I have recently been in to an AT and T and Sprint Store, with no tech support whatsoever. Techs are there as a COURTESY to the customers. They are trained on devices made by other manufacturers, not by VZW.

wow..... all the posts i could quote........
    1. vzw doesnt make the os, we are given the os. these patches are meant to fix issues.....right? were some of the issues with the older os's fixed? hmmm. i seem to take less calls for the .328, so to me, it seems like issues are getting fixed. slowly perhaps, but getting fixed.
2.all these people comming up with hybrids, and leaked os's and running them........ right, you do this to your device wand then whine and cry to vzw techs like whiney little b****'s when you brick your devices. I understand that some of you guys know what you are doing, and probably know more than i about how to throw togather an os.....SOME of you guys.
    3. you know about your phones. you have one or two to know about..... they are always in your hand. you are always doing the research and the work to make them better....... me? i get to know a little bit about a lot of devices....... from the S2 all the way down, the droids, the q9c's the htc. the samsungs, the air cards, the mini's, the win moblies, the ******** palms...... and not just the devices, but the software, sync clients, and the os's for all that. you count the devices and the software, and all the tools, and apps, and accessories I dont have the fingers. a lot of times, we have the knowledge bases to draw from, and experience.

put all that together into a job where the turn over is high, and this is what you get.

to the op, the os fix will come, and you make a good point. the more people complain about a legit problem, the faaster it will be fixed. Im not sure about the clnr that you were shipped. some DO have issues, i would test the device extensivly before accepting it, you MAY be trading out a minor annoyence for some bigger problems.

every one wants to turn this into a flame, what ever.........

rant only half done, but im wastin my time. im done.
