They are pretty much the same as the 8830 World Edition in that
they also have a GSM side. That is what is being unlocked, not
the CDMA side.
what do you mean by that? "same as 8830"???
can the storm be used with tmobile then?
The two phone you mention are CDMA but also have a SIM card
slot, so yes, if you unlock the GSM side, slap a SIM card in, you
can use the devices on a GSM (T-Mobile, AT&T, etc...) network.
edit: Someone can correct this if it is wrong, but I don't think
you actually need to unlock it. Just throw in a SIM
oh, i did not know that...
is it jsut as easy to unlock those as i did with my bold?
what model tour could i unlock to use with GSM?
The only tour model there is
Some if not all storm and tour models are network locked, otherwise there wouldnt be "unlock storm" "unlock tour" services. However, you can try inserting the sim card and see if you are a lucky one.
You do need to get the phone unlocked (Storm/Tour) to use on another carrier.
The 8830WE cannot be used on domestic GSM carriers because it's GSM frequencies are only used internationally. Hence the term dual-band and quad-band GSM radios.
Check out the Wireless Network tab in this comparison link of the three phones (8830WE/Storm/Tour):
BlackBerry - BlackBerry | Wireless Handheld Devices, Software & Services from Research In Motion (RIM)
this is probably a dumb question but can the bold be unlocked to use on a cdma network???

No, the Bold only has a GSM radio. Therefore, it can't be used on a cdma network. Period.
ok that makes sense. So the tour has a built in radio for both GSM and CDMA??? will the new Onxy 9700 also have the same or just GSM???

The Onyx will be GSM, like the Bold. Yes, the Tour has both cdma and gsm radios.
well that sucks lol. Damn Atnt!!! ;)

The Verizon Tour needs to be UNlocked. If you've had a Verizon account in good standing for a certain period, they will unlock it if you call their global services. Using data on the gsm side may or may not be more problematic from what I read.
Yes both those devices the Storm and the Tour are CDMA/GSM devices which can be unlocked and used on any GSM network.
