Virgin Mobile (canada) refusing to activate unlocked phones?

Hello, I just got off the phone with Virgin to find out:

They will not activate any unlocked phones, even if they're compatible, and the esn is clear because "they will not work on our network, unless they're a 'virgin' branded phone".

I insited to the rep that yes they will but that obviously got me no where.

What's the deal with this, I know it's all about them wanted you to buy into a contract, but is there anything I can do to get this phone activated with them? Does anybody have experience in dealing with virgin for this issue?

If its a unlocked phone going on a cdma network it won't work. being unlocked means it can be used on any gsm carrier.

Flashing a cdma device to work on another network can be done, but still requires the carrier to be willing to activate it.

Canadian CDMA Carriers are known for not activating any different branded phones. In the USA, flashing Verizon to cricket to alltel etc etc, will work, but they're a little more strict here. Unfortunately, you'll have to get a Virgin Mobile branded phone if you would like to use their network.
