VIP is alive and well. I've run into store reps who've told me otherwise, but ccare has their **** together and knows all about it. Now, VZW always reserves the right to review/revise the program annually, but no one I've spoken with has indicated at all that there are any plans to eliminate it. Just take advantage of your VIP benefits by ordering over the phone. It's painless, and they'll probably waive overnight shipping...
EDIT: I'm blind and missed Weekendbum's thread re: termination of the VIP program. Sorry about that.
I believe the update to Verizon's systems stating the end of the VIP system just happened today... So its quite possible others aren't aware that it will be coming to an end...
Anytime a Company buys/merges/pays money for another company, esp. as much as they did with Alltel we (the consumer) are going to see things cut. So look for more cuts, maybe.

Sure they paid millions for Alltel, but they also just gained millions more customers... They will make that money back in no time.
I wouldn't be suprised if they make it apply to everyone so to say. They may be making it so that everyone gets a $50 a year credit, and free transfers and all that stuff. The only thing everyone wouldn't be getting is the 25% off accesories. Thats just my guess though...
the only reason i can see is to increase their already industry leading profit margins. not going to get into any more detail than that, but any way vzw can make an extra dollar, they will do it.

That's the most likely reason when it comes down to sheer economics.
But, there are other possibilities. 1: They're starting a new program to make even better incentives to STAY with VZW (as the market for growth slows since nearly everyone has a cell). 2: They're changing incentives to get people into data phones to make more money on data. 3: They're changing incentives to go along with the launch of LTE, and to get people into LTE phones & devices so they can shut down CDMA faster.
