i just got off the phone with verizon, they didn't hear anything plus there is nothing we can do about it anyway
even if i get a phone on monthly payments it will be month to month.
I'm skeptical of the whole thing for a couple of reasons. But assuming this is true...what constitutes "extraordinary," especially on band 13?
that will be me about 2000 gb/month
at&t it's got 22 gb cap
Right. TMO says they evaluate theirs every quarter; it has gone up from 23 to 25 to 26.
Credit to @Almeuit on the AC forums.Verizon has confirmed to us that they will begin notifying a “small group” of customers (via both bill message and letter) who use that “extraordinary” amount of data, telling them that they will need a new plan by August 31.
Tmo' s cap on data is 26gb per month?

Yes. The current "de-prioritization" cap is 26GB.
So 100GB it is for Verizon: http://m.crackberry.com/verizon-expe...ry-amount-data
You use 2tb a month over cellular?
A little over and I didn't get any notice

How do you use so much data? I can't even break 5 GB even with Blend! I'm so wasting my unlimited plan. :(

Must run a torrent server off the phone.

I called VZW & was told the effort to purge or 're-plan' users consuming 200GB+ per month by Feb 16, 2017 is true & that I am one of 8200 VZW unlimited data legacy users & they can't stand it. I average 10 - 12GB per month but have peaked at 30GB in the past mostly on the phone, not with hotspot. I don't understand how most people aren't using at least 30 - 50 GB per month with today's video-heavy or data-heavy internet, in general. I also don't understand how only 8K 'unlimited data' users spread all over their network could affect its efficiency enough to matter.
I pay $40 access / voice, $50 for unlimited data (since the 2015 $20 increase) AND an additional $30 per month for tethering / hotspot.
Before I got my new Z30 in 2016, data on the phone was unlimited & rolled into the access / voice cost but tethering with no hotspot was $30 extra & had a 5GB limit before overage charges. So with the $20 per month price increase for unlimited data in 2015, their strategy is if they can't limit us out, they'll eventually price us out. But if there is another price increase on unlimited data, I'm done.
did you get a letter from vzw?
i didn't and i'm by 3TB usage per month now ,when i read about it (la times) i was thinking i will be the first to get the letter
Here is my usage
I'm one of the 8200 still on the unlimited plan. No letter but my usage isn't enough to probably even justify having unlimited.
I'm surprised Verizon hasn't sent a hit squad to take you out yet! lol
Sheesh, whether to feel honored to be amongst that very few who hold onto UNlimited. That number is amazing - with all their customers only approx 8,200 still have unlimited. I don't need it or use it but don't want to give it up. There are some sites that suggest one can sell one's unlimited.
I have gotten calls from Verizon suggesting that my rates could be lower if I switched to another plan since I generally don't even use a gigabyte. I have used more in the past but not for a while now.
Oh, well..... My estate can deal with it eventually!
you can put your sim card into a mifi device 7730L or 6620L for the highest speeds and share it at no additional cost
Here is the proof
I hadn't considered that. I do miss being able to Hotspot the plan back when the OS allowed modifications of the engineering screen - that forced update back when took care of that though. May have to look into the mifi device.
No letter for me because I've only peaked at around 30GB so far and over the last 16 days I'm already at 20GB.
3TB!? Hahahahaha - That is a great example of truly unlimited data use but you may be getting a letter soon.
I've seen the VZW commercials lecturing about how most people don't need unlimited data or only use 2 - 3GB per month. Well, if that's the case, what's the problem with only a fraction of the other millions using extra data?
The bottom line is all about money. Their highest data plan is $450 for 100GB so the 100GB+ users are doing pretty good at only $50 per month and VZW can't stand it! :D
Furthermore, if all the unlimited users were paying that $450, would the use of 'excessive' bandwidth still be an issue for putting a heavy load on their network? In other words, if 100GB per user is an issue, why is it an available plan? More money!
I am one of the 8200 VZW unlimited data legacy users. Today VZW announced their new Unlimited data plan and it looks like the data cap is 22GB and then you are low-prioritized. Is the only difference between our grandfathered unlimited is that we get low priority after 200GB and the new plan is at 22GB? (Beside the cost?)
Now we know TWO of us! Not that I really make use of it. I wish I could wifi hotspot, and not that I would abuse it, but during a power failure two weeks ago, it would have been nice if I could have used it with my laptop. As is, the laptop, of course, had battery power but no access to the "powerless-wifi router plugged into the wall"
Nope. I spoke with Verizon yesterday, the first day of the 'new unlimited' plan, scared they were going to jack up our rate again but it will stay at $50 for now. We don't get low priority after passing 200GB, we get a warning letter & then disconnected if it continues as discussed above.
There's also another surprise in addition to the 22GB priority cue you mentioned which is only active if priority is needed where you will be less priority than standard customers using a tower in the specific area where you are currently located, otherwise, there's no delay. The other is a reduction to 3G speed (throttling) at 10GB but only for hotspot, not handset use. We, the 8200, still get full strength no matter what.
Excluding the conditional restrictions, the only great thing about the new plan is the $80 price for unlimited talk, text, data & I think hotspot / tethering is rolled into that too. But who knows how long this new plan will last or if it will be grandfathered. The CSR said earlier in the day there were10K calls in the cue because of this new plan and that only upper management knew about it before it was released.
I passed my record of 30GB with 36GB this past month.
Two of us? As I stated above, I am one of the 8200 VZW unlimited data legacy users. But this thread is about several or more of us too.
Other than affordability or not having it activated, why can't you use hotspot?
