I have verizon. the browser opens to some verizon page with a bunch of verizon icons, but no where to openly search the internet. is that possible? how can i create a normal browser instead of this verizon browser?

Hit the "G" key on your BlackBerry keypad, or the BlackBerry Menu Key > Go To...
Enter a site you would like to make your home page.
To set the new page as your home page, click the BlackBerry Menu Key > Options > Browser Configuration > scroll to the bottom of the list of settings until you see "Use Current". Click on it to set your home page. Hit the BlackBerry Menu Key to Save Options.

I ditched my Verizon theme as well.
