AT&T messaging plans require pay per use data. The messaging packages are bundled with MMS/Video which need data. I would say hide the medianet browser.
Welcome to crackberry.com
I would hide the browser like Jayden said and Welcome to Crackberry!
Welcome to the crack addition! Hide the Medianet brower, and all the shop this & that icons. They will dial in.
Ok, so in playing with the phone I turned off something (phone isnt with me at the moment so I cant say what) but basically she can still call and text (she has a text package) but however, when clicking on a "shop ringtones" or "shop graphics" the phone will say you have no data plan hooked up. I assume this means I turned off the right thing on the network setup. Thanks for the replies.
I was wondering about the same thing...can I use bb data pay as you go? What if let's say I use it mostly in the house where I can use wifi, and only a little outside? I talked to a CS and she said I would have to get the data plan, which doesn't sound right to me.
Have her attempt to send an MMS. If she can't you definitely turned off the wrong thing. Hide not disable the icons.
You would have to be on a contract. There is not prepaid pricing for BBs.
i would do more than that. If she ever restarts the phone the icons will reappear. Go into options/security/firewall and make sure everything but sms is checked. and make sure the firewall is enabled. this way if for somereason the battery completly dies, when she turns it back on the settings will still be saved.
I have a feeling someone is going to come on here and rant about "Why do you not have a data plan? Its like (insert bad analogy here)." Not tryin to start anything, just saying. lol. I think its pretty funny myself. Peace out!!
Why do you not have a data plan?! It's like (insert bad analogy here!)
:P
Also, in the Network settings you can turn Data Services off.
another option is calling at&t, put a block on the internet and get a sms only plan. I don't think it shows them on-line but I have to add them every once in a blue moon for this very reason.
Acutally I was expecting that too, but she really only needs it for voice calling, texting (the full keyboard of course!) and the appointment book.
if you dont have a data plan it wont connect because you are not logged into a bis or bes server it will text but no pics you dont need to block the web cuz it just wont function without the blackberry plan
I've heard tons of people moan and groan about Verizon requiring a data plan with a BlackBerry. At first, I thought they had a very valid point, at least with ATT you get to choose. Shortly after I was left wondering...why would you get a blackberry without a data plan? It's like buying a Blu-Ray player and only using DVD's. Or like getting an iPod and only using it to store photos and videos. BlackBerry's were made for data!!! I'm gonna go install a lightswitch but no light to go with it...I'll hang very small clothes on it....am I the only one that understands this? Or is it more like people just wanna say they have a BlackBerry? I have a pool at my house....you didn't ask if there was water in it

More than likely, he will not be afforded the option of an Sms only plan. Only for business accounts does it exist.
I understand your way of thinking but I also see the other side. I'm a poor, cheap, s.o.b. and $30 a month is a pretty big step for me. I don't have a job were getting my email is important but I still thought about getting a Berry for my voice phone because I like how easy it is to sync with my pc, the contacts and calendar, and a qwerty key board for texting. If I could find a non PDA that was as good quality with a full key board and more up to date OS I would in all honesty look at it, but until then a 8310 or 9000 seems to be my best choice.
Does the Blu-Ray play DVDs better? Everything the BB does even without data is better than majority of the phones now. The UI = great unlike windows mobile. The voice quality is one of the best, actually of the smartphones, it is the best. The alarm clock, I prefer over my radio's as it's annoyingly loud. SMS, great QWERTY keyboard for that. MMS, I love MMS on the BB. All those above do not require a BB data plan.
Also kids are using BBs everyday now. I don't think my son will ever need push email until he can pay for it himself (having a job.) BBs are free nowadays and can have insurance, so why not get your son/daughter that is 14-17 years of age one. It's as cheap as the cheapo Nokias.
i have a red curve 8310 all i have is voice and texting... with that i get calling, sms text, mms text, and IMs... there is a way to turn off the internet... click the icon that looks like a tower... go to mobile network options and then turn off data... your all set
