secondly, once unlocked is there anything i need to to to run a three 3 network sim card?

Only the carrier can provide the unlock code for free. Once unlocked you just pop in your SIM card.

If you have an account with the provider your phone came from you can try calling them and get the code for free, or else you can buy the unlock code from any of us unlockers here. Depending on the country, but I believe 3 Hutch only has a 3G Network and the 8120 is not 3G compatible so it wouldn't work but we might be wrong.
