Unable to write long text messages?!?!?!
- i was wanting to know if there is any way to get around this situation. I write a text message and whenever the field is full i cant continue writing. So i was wondering if there is any way i can write a long text message and the phone register the message as 1 of 2 or so on? I have a curve 8330. is it just the blackberry 8330 that this happens to? Thanks04-20-09 12:18 PMLike 0
- I know what you mean. My old Razr would do this--you could type as much as you would like and it would send it all at once and just divide it up. I've had the same issues with my Curve. Maybe this will be one of the things they fix in the future!04-20-09 01:35 PMLike 0

As long as you're using a BlackBerry, you are stuck with the SMS limit - use MMS or email.

"Extended Message Length: An EMS capable handset will allow you to compose an Enhanced TXT message longer than the 160-character limit. EMS capable handsets can send and receive messages over 1000 characters long."*
Read the PDF file here: *http://support.vzw.com/pdf/HowTo_TXTmessaging.pdf
The unofficial statement regarding this is that some carriers may add the feature in using carrier OS customization. The VZW OS does not include this customization. The why's might be that the BlackBerry has so many ways to message, adding another could be redundant. Another is that the EMS feature on BlackBerry may not be compatible with non-BlackBerry phones. Can you imagine typing 1000 characters to a Nokia phone on AT&T only to have 840 characters truncated?
Regardless of the reason, there is nothing currently available in a VZW BlackBerry unless a third-party app is available. And with the limitations of BlackBerry, any third-party option would be a workaround, at best.

- I've been developing just such an app, and I hope to be launching it very soon. I am looking to add a few more quality beta testers, which is why I am posting here. If you're interested, please send me a PM or use the email link by clicking my screen name. I am looking for testers who meet the following criteria:
- You are currently using a CDMA carrier such as Verizon, Sprint, Alltel, Telus, or Bell.
- You do a lot of texting and are often needing to type more than 160 characters.
- You understand that this is *beta* testing, and so the app will not be perfect.
- You have time to play with the app, and are willing to send me some feedback regarding problems, likes, dislikes, suggestions, etc...
I'm especially interested in those who are using my QuickText app, as these two apps will have the ability to work together.04-21-09 01:15 PMLike 0 - cateFormer Rock StarI've been developing just such an app, and I hope to be launching it very soon. I use MMS a lot and while it's frustrating, it takes care of the trick.04-21-09 01:47 PMLike 0 - This limitation is not just for Verizon BB's. All CDMA BB's (Sprint, US Cel, AllTell, etc.) have this limitation.04-21-09 09:27 PMLike 0

What you and others have talked about -- breaking text messages up into multiple pieces -- is called EMS or Enhanced Messaging System. It is NOT uniformly supported across carriers and handset brands on the CDMA side of things. Many VZW phones DO support this (but BB's don't), however it on;y works if you are sending the message to other VZW customers. Other messages are just truncated at 160 characters and you generally get a message back telling you this.
MMS on the other hand has a thousand character limit and there is no need to break up the message04-21-09 09:32 PMLike 0 - For those still confused I will repeat what vzwrocka is saying..
SMS by DEFINITION is limited to 160 characters. period.
Mobile technology be it GSM, CDMA, or even 2 cans and string whatever.. all adhere to this defintion... This has NOTHING to do with VZ or with RIM.
"SOME" combination of carriers and phones allow concantenation of multiple SMS msgs to create a >160 char. txt. Now... by "some" i mean just that, so do NOT assume that just cos you sent a long winded txt that someone actually received the entire amount.. many recipients will only get the first 160characters..
Use SMS for what it was intended for... SHORT messages..lol
04-22-09 01:00 PMLike 0 - While I understand the many messaging options, it is a pain when you don't think about it before you start typing.04-22-09 01:03 PMLike 0

I'm very interested in testing your software. im always always texting and have a tendency to be rather long winded [personally i prefer elaborative], but anyways, I'd be interested in being a beta tester and if not, I'd just love to know when your app comes out.06-13-09 06:07 PMLike 0 -
