On both of the UAE's service providers websites, they mention the ban from the TRA being in-motion on the 11th of October 2010

Man, they just had to do this 2 days before the 9800 is announced!

I think I'll jump ship to Android once gingerbread is out

Do either of the carriers in the UAE have decent data plans that will make android worthwhile, or will your high price android handset be another prepaid time gobbler?

A 1GB data plan costs almost as much as the unlimited data plan I'm currently using.

That would be reasonable if you could find android handsets in the UAE. HTC's are my favorite. Are they available?

Yup, planning on getting an HTC.

I'll probably purchase one online - more phones to choose from (have only found crappy Samsung phones so far), and cheaper too
