Sprint BlackBerry 8830 WE supports GSM 900 & 1800 MHz only, which is used in Asia/ Europe/ Africa/ Parts of South America. In North America GSM operators use 850 & 1900 MHz. So, even if the Sprint 8830 WE is SIM-unlocked, it won't work with AT&T/ T-Mobile USA/ Rogers or any other North American GSM operator.

This Is false. this blackberry does have the ability to work on US GSM companies... Sprint gave me the unlock codes for free but the phone has to be out of sprint contract. when i popped in the code it worked and I was good to go on carrier AT&T.

The 8830 cannot work on North American GSM frequencies. You may well have unlocked it, but you will not be able to use it on AT&T.

Are you sure you are using an 8830 and not an 8820? The RIM specs say the 8830 can operate on the 900/1800 MHz GSM frequencies. Those are European GSM frequencies. The North American GSM frequencies are 850/1900 MHz.

Ok BBNIGHTFIRE. Are you saying you have a Blackberry 8830 World Edition phone you are using with a U.S. Sim card and its working?

If you want to use the Blackberry 8830 World Edition with another US Carrier on a CDMA network then instead of "unlocking" the phone you would "flash" the phone to another CDMA carrier. See and example of this on You Tube at this link:
Happy hunting for a not too complicated solution.

All unlock codes are unique to a imei. Besides that his imei is incorrect, no 8830's end in a "0"

This code you were given looks like the MSL code and not the MEP Unlock code.

I have a friend that has the CDMA BB 8330 (Curve) and wants me to flash it over to MetroPCS. The question is: If i flash it over to MetroPCS or any other supported carrier (CDMA, obviously), will the Blackberry App World application still work as long as he has unlimited data?

BTW, i have access to carrier flash packs for BB if anyone needs them. Mirrors to come!

No it will not because it is a native app that requires BIS/BES Service.

Only features that will work will be Voice/SMS and Browser (which I believe is Opera or Bolt)

Are you sure it's a 9700? because Sprint doesn't carry the 9700. Might be the 9650 and if so you just need to put your SIM in the phone and then go to Options/Mobile Network and change Technology to GSM/UMTS and select 2G.

Okay, it s 8530, But where does the SIM card go. I all i see when i open the phone is a memory chip and the battery slot. I didn't think that Sprint used SIM cards.

8530 is CDMA only and can't be unlocked doesn't accepts SIM cards.
