So I buy a Classic and load it up with 10.2.1.2228 (or any of the other leaks that get WiFi calliing on TMO.
Will I then have WiFi calling, i.e., a "modern-old" Q10? Might just have all the best features of BBOS and BB10.
Not worth it to me to not have WFC as I have a terrible signal from TMO without WFC.
Anyone care to venture a guess (or better an informed opinion)

If you buy a classic it will have the latest official OS installed 10.3.1.***** As it would be official should have WiFi calling, but it's TMo ya never know.

I don't think there will be Wfc on the classic because I think that you need to have a t mobile branded phone for that and BlackBerry and t mobile aren't on good terms as of now

From my understanding T-Mobile Wifi calling is only available for phones that T-Mobile sold before. I am not sure if unlocked Z10 and Q10 get the Wifi Calling update, since Blackberry pushes out the updates to unlock phones. The os updates that Blackberry is pushing out is higher than the last T-Mobile approved update I believe. I think those that are using a Z30 on T-Mobile have mention that they don't have Wifi calling.

Check out this thread, which mention that a user has wifi calling working on tmobile branded Z10 and their unlock Z10.

I have two Z10s, one branded one not. Both get wifi-calling. The branded is running .2228, the unbranded, .3442. However since Tmo never sold the Z30 it doesn't get wifi-calling. Doubt the classic will.

10.2.1 won't install on the Classic as it doesn't support the tool belt. WFC won't work on the Classic unless/until Tmo and BB kiss and make up or Tmo decides to allow it on unsupported devices.

If both scenarios fail and you absolutely need WFC on a Classic then you might have to wait until AT&T starts implementing WFC as part of their service, possibly within H1 2015. With everything going to VoLTE, VoWiFi is inevitable.

My branded Q10 gets wifi calling but there's a Tmo app that toggles it on or off. If they make that app available through BlackBerry world maybe it could work on unbranded phones?

As Scrannel pointed out, WFC does work on unbranded phones...as long as they're Q10 -5s or Z10 -3s.

But I think you meant phones never sold by TMO? If so, the toggle for such phones is just that--a toggle. It doesn't bring the functionality, it just turns the feature on or off. So even if I managed to load this TMO app on, say, a Classic, toggling it would be like turning off and on a light switch when you don't have power.

Hell if someone figures out a way to get WFC working on newer BB10 phones, I'll buy him or her a CASE of beer.

As noted above, are you using a phone that is sanctified by Tmo to run it?

BBerry classic should NOT allow wifi-calling as it was not a model sold by tmo. Who knows, maybe they'll loosen the reins some day.

Have you received an update on your classic?

Still running OS 10.3.1.1154 here. Everyone else with a Classic has received an update.

I think you need to use a Telus or Rogers sim card in the Classic to receive the latest official update at this time. Those are the only 2 carriers that have release the official update up until now.

Telus updates coincide with T-Mobile phones bought from Shop BlackBerry. That has been my experience with my Passport too.

I wouldn't know. I wouldn't purchase a BlackBerry and have it handled by DR in a million years.

I have an unlocked T-mobile branded Z10 and Q10. if I want to update I can use the carrier sim cards mentioned above. Now it looks like Bell has the update as well.

Have you received the update using your unlocked device yet?

Not "everyone on Classic has received an update" unfortunately. My unlocked Classic arrived with 10.3.1.747 and both BBLink and search from device indicate I have the latest. So, are my updates carrier sim-connected? Could not obtain any info on BlackBerry site. Everything else with my lovely new Classic is peachy, glad to have my keyboard again!
