People don't buy BlackBerry phones because they're not iPhones. That is the sole reason. The consumer base widens literally every day with the lowest common denominator. I've bought TWO BlackBerry phones over about seven years. If something breaks or wears out (battery, camera CCD), I repair it. I am like some dark techromancer, practicing forbidden magicks to give eternal unlife to my BB phones. Meanwhile most iPhone users buy another one as soon as they come out, if not sooner due to having terminal butterfingers.
AT&T has pretty much the same rates as Verizon. Neither company has to truly compete, and it would be illegal for them to drop their rates below what smaller carriers could afford to charge. In fact, the only deciding factor in your carrier should be which provides the best service in the places you go (away from your home).
