I've been using my blackberry pearl without a text plan but i have the personal data plan. Unfortunately at&t slaps me $0.20 for every incoming and outgoing text message. Was curious if there's a way to route the text messages through my data plan, without buying the text messaging plan. I googled for a solution and found out about teleflip service, but that has been discontinued recently.

The only workaround is to not have people text your phone but text your email address. But that requires changing other people's behavior.

Or use email. It is included in your plan. Probably not theirs though.

They can text to your email address, and you can email to their SMS address which for cingular/AT&T is 10-digit phone number]@txt.att.net. For people not on AT&T you can find their sms address here. You are still limited to the 160 character sms limits both ways.
