Thanks Matt. I will certainly taking advantage of your help
So, here is an update. I phoned agian and spoke to someone in Customer Relations who insisted that this plan is no longer available. She said she went through a training recently and they said it wasn't available. Meanwhile, I had the Rogers site up and it says it on the site, and she was still arguing with me, but would put me through to the Data department as she is no BB expert.
So, I speak with the girl in Data and she was actually competent. After investigating my account, she said the reason I couldn't get the 6gb data plan (and the reason no rep could see it available for me) was because I was signed up to a Retention voice plan, and the 6gb data plan was not available with any other promo. So, the girl ended up giving me a new plan, but giving credits to equal the cost I would have been paying with the retention plan.
Now, I think it is all good...but Rogers Self-Service site is down, so I can't check...I will check in a few days. Now that the promo is extended until Sept 30, time isn't such a concern.
Hey Matt
Do you have an up to date release date for OS 4.5 from Rogers. I read somewhere the first release is around Sept. 11. Just wondering if Rogers has updated this date.
To be honest, no real clue. I am hoping Rogers comes out with it soon as well because I am aching for a soft-upgrade!
With all the leaks and being official on other carriers, who needs to wait for Rogers to get around to it..grab it from another carrier and be on your way..I have had 4.5 on my device back when it was 4.3 (lol!) and I'm on Rogers..HTML emails working fine as kind..Just a shame Rogers is lame and won;t offer me any discounts on my Bold...$500+ a mnth customer and the best they can do is gimme the admin fee off..Pfft!
If you're a $500+ per month individual customer, I don't see why they're giving you such a low discount. There should be some discrepancy with your claim. I have no problem taking a look at what's going on if you don't mind.
I just got the $30/6gb plan [apparently I had to extend my current plan 3 years as well, oh well]. I'm just wondering if there's a difference between me using the WAP Rogers browser and the regular Blackberry browser?
Also, how can I check my data usage for OS4.5?
Thanks!
You are only tied to a threee year data plan, not voice pln. if you ever wanted to cancel the data plan it would be max $100. As far as the browser goes, no difference, they work the same, and there is no way on OS4.5 to check data useage. With 6gigs a month, you have nothing to worry. There is no way you will possibly be able to go over 6gig with regular browsing on your BB on EDGE. I tether my laptop to my bb regularly and only hit 2gig and change last month.
I just got a blackberry. It's my first one: BB8120. A few questions.
a) Why does it say GSM on the side when it's connected to my WIFI? I don't want it to charge me when I want it to default to Wifi when it's got an active connection and I browse. I don't like unexpected charges.
b) Is it possible for it to sync and send email through the bb rather than the browser over wifi? In the manual it says certain settings depending on the provider will allow you to use certain services through wifi. I don't have a data plan b/c I don't want to be forced onto a contract with it and there's no need for it for me yet.
c) Big one! I am not and have not been receiving texts for a week when my friends say they get my messages and respond. I even sent one to myself through the rogers site and did not get it. When I go to sms inbox folder it says: "No message services configured. You will only be able to Save Draft". I'm so confused. I did receive one when I first put in my sim card: 'Roger's Wireless Welcome: Thank you for choosing Blackberry from rogers wireless for your voice and data communications..."
Help! I am so confused and struggling to learn the blackberry. I can't find certain answer in the manual either.

This is standard. WiFi and GSM can be connected simultaneously. If you didn't know, GSM is not data, it is voice. EDGE is data. Have Rogers block you from accumulating data charges on your account but ensure that your hardware can still connect to wifi.

It is possible and should be no problem. Others have done so but not on the model you are using so I am not 100% sure.

The no message services configured part is telling you about the lack of data plan you have lols. If this problem persists after taking out and putting your sim card back in, call Rogers tech support as this is not a common issue. It happened to me the last time my blackberry was not connected to my data plan.
and one last thing, we are always here to help so no problem too big to handle. Congrats on getting the new Blackberry and we hope to make a crackberry addict out of you! Thank you for choosing ROGERS!
This looks like the place to ask.
I'll be a new Rogers and BB user when my Bold arrives soon.
I'll be singing on with a 3yr contract and the My5 Canada Wide + 6gb data plans.
My area code will be 613. So when I make a call to say 416 and I'm sitting in the 416 area physically, do I still get charged long distance? Sorry if this is a lame question, but at $.30 p/min long distance rate that can add up fast.
Also, found out I cannot get data/internet use from prepaid T-Mobile SIM cards when traveling US side, just voice only. Would I be better off getting a US plan add-on from Rogers and would I get data without extra charges while in the USA?
Anyone have any experience with costs for voice in the US? Any extra roaming fees?
Thanks so much! =) I know I shouldn't worry with 6gbs [the Rogers guy told me not to either hehe] but I'm oddly paranoid [since my bill is already so expensive =P].
Another question though [I'm full of them =P]. I want to put a filter for my Gmail account so I don't get new message alerts from myself [like when I send an email on Gmail to someone else, I don't want to get it on my phone]. So I read that I'm supposed to log into my BIS account and do it from there. I'm on the Rogers one and when I put in my information [my gmail address and password], it says it's incorrect. But I'm only using one email account and it shows that's my information. I'm confused...=(
i work at the source in Windsor! were rogers dealers
rogers has no roaming in canada. so if youre in toronto, dialing toronto, its local.
but if youre calling/receiving 613 area code while youre in toronto you will be charged long distance (unless its one of your 5).
question for any retentions or rogers people in general. does rogers have a plans or add ons, be it regular or retention that has network calling included?? meaning any calls from/to a fido AND rogers phone will be free. i know i can easily add rogers to rogers as an option, but i want rogers AND fido.
almost all of my calls are from/to people on rogers AND fido. if this feature is available i would definitely do everything i can to get it. what would be really great is a plan that had network calling included and then just about 200 minutes or so in case i need to make any other calls.
There are already many plans available that can suit your need. The current Rogers offers have network calling and should be sufficient in minutes for you as well.
are the plans u speak of retentions ones or regular?
retention plans AND regular plans offer network calling.
If i buy a Bold in spain and use an unlock code, all is well to use it on a rogers network? Everything will work? Newbie question. ;)
That depends on what you mean by "everything" but generally you should be able to send and receive calls, with the right settings you can email as well and of course, PIN!
But sometimes other carriers have things on their phone specifically for that carrier.
i have a question matt.
i tried upgrading my data plan from 1.5 to 6gb at a rogers kiosk today and they told me i have to renew my 3 year contract. I just signed one 3 months ago and i do not want to renew it. I know it is only 3 months, but i look at it as only 33 months left instead of going back and starting at 36 months again. Is there anything you can do?
thanks
hey I have a question about data roaming charges. I am from toronto and I want to know if i go to a different city or up to my cottage and use some data will I be charged extra for it?
unless you have a voice and data package, your data plan is completely separate from your voice plan. pm me your information and i'll take a look into it.
data roaming should be the same across canada.
