I recently did an early upgrade to get the BOLD 9700 from AT&T store, so I am automatically extending my contract for another extra 2 years and I remember that the sales rep told me that I could return the phone if for any reason I wasn't satisfied with it.

My question is that when I refund the phone, do they also cancel my extended 2 year contract or do I still have to be an AT&T customer another extra 2 years.

Once you return it, everything will go back to the way it was before you made your purchase. There will be no contract extension should you decide to return the phone.

you have to make sure to tell them to reverse your upgrade, so that you will be eligible again. The corp stores in my area are notorious for taking the phone back and leaving the customer ineligible for upgrade again.

You will also hav eto pay a $35 restocking fee. What qualifies you for the early upgrade?
