I have a GS3, which uses a micro-SIM. I also have a 9810, which uses a regular SIM. I also have a bunch of micro- to regular SIM adapters, but they don't fit too well in the 9810's SIM slot, especially not as well as regular sized SIMs, which go in and out smoothly like butter.

I have an old postpaid TMO SIM lying around. Does anyone know if it's possible to switch my line at will between SIM cards? So when I want to use my 9810, I activate my regular SIM, and when I want to use my GS3, I activate the micro-SIM card (the regular SIM goes dead until the next activation.)

You could clone the SIM in theory if the memory size is sufficient... Do you mean doing something like that?

Right. As I understand it, only one SIM can be active at a time. And I would like the ability to keep whichever one I want active at my choosing.

I don't need to clone the SIM necessarily. If the one that I'm not using goes dead until the next activation, that's fine with me.

technically its not possible. Cloning i think would be the only way to do it and im not sure how legal that really is. What you need is something like google voice. You keep one number then but you can attach several different SIMs all with different numbers to the account.

Well, when I bought the micro-SIM card, the store deactivated the old, regular SIM and "transferred" service to the new one. It was really quick too. So I'm wondering if there's some way I can do this myself. And I don't really need multiple lines of service/numbers. I just need to be able to use two SIMs to do the job of one, concurrently or non-concurrently (since using an adapter isn't an option.)

I came across this link after a Google search for "T-Mobile provision SIM card:"

SIM card changes | T-Mobile Support

However, going through the link in that KB article did not work. My old SIM was rejected as "unusable." When I called CS, I was told that technically it was possible to re-use the SIM, but switching often wouldn't be easy--I'd be eligible to do that the next time in a week. So no go.

Its not really possible. Updating or upgrading a sim is easy and takes seconds. Repurposing a sim as your proposing requires the rsa to submit a request which can (and often does) take 24 hours to complete.
