Hi Paul. Not on a 9860 but using it quite happily with Orange on my 9900. It's not quite as good as it used to be on my 9800 with true UMA but better than just my mobile signal here.

No its not working on my 9860.

I spoke to orange a few days before it was released as the UMA was a feature that was sold to me as coming in feb as signal in my area isnt the best.

I was given some money to shut me up and told a few days after it was available. Looks like they still dont know whats going on as they directed me to download 7.0 update.. but even on 7.1 its still not shown up.

If there is one thing i will never do again its buy a product on what it may do in the future, and will only buy it on what it currently does out the box... as unfortunately these so called features never appear!

I have emailed them today and told them how disappointed I am about how they have gone about it......I. Can't find any information on UMA or wifi calling for the 9860.
    I. Will let you know what they say about it........

If it doesnt show up within the next 4 months they'll be swapping my handset for another of my choice.. they just dont know it yet.

I was already mis-sold on the price increase which they *cough*refunded*cough* gave me a gesture of good will towards that equaled the price of the increase.

And now to be mis sold on the UMA is just fantastic. They'll tell you any old bollocks to get you to take out an upgrade

Had a voicemail back from orange customer services today

Apparently the UMA/wifi calling option is still under testing by blackberry and isnt yet available

No launch date is known for this

So the .342 orange official wont have this guys!

if you put "9860 wifi calling" into google you will find a blackberry manual stating how to turn on wifi calling and its down to operators if they enable it...

Wifi calling is different to UMA

UMA is the technology orange use for this and its hardware based rather than software, so customer services might not have been fobbing me off this time!

Hi I know what both system are but I think you missed my point, google 9860 wifi calling and you will get in a manual from blackberry how to turn the feature on and off. They also state that its carrier dependant...ie orange havve not "switched" it on yet, I belive its working for the 9900. Blackbery also state this is a feature of 7.1.
My frustration is with orange in that when you call them nobody has a clue, this has been promised since feb!

Oh sorry i think we got wires crossed there

I do agree that they are a pain to get help from, when i first got this phone i was promised deezr and sky sports as my swapables, took them 2/3 months to get it working and not even a few quid refund for the wait!

    Why has someone moved this?

Its a specific issue to the 9860 not a wifi issue.........

The 9860 isn't capable of UMA calling, since it lacks the necessary hardware. That being said, your carrier's excuse regarding WiFi calling (a software implementation) is simply untrue or at best incomplete. I know people on T-Mobile USA (another pro-UMA/WiFi calling carrier) who can make calls over WiFi just fine when using their OS7.1 devices.

It doesn't make sense to me that RIM would be still be "testing" such a major, advertised feature for one carrier/country but release it for another.
