That's not the only way. My wife and I both own Sprint 8330m's, and ours have been updating automatically.

I have an 8330m, and today all of a sudden, my PRL spontaneously updated to 60657. I was having major issues updating it due to me being in Alaska at the moment. I was stuck at 60654 for quite awhile, and then boom about 4 hours ago, my signal here in Juneau shot through the roof. Since Sprint does not operate here, due to Rural Carrier agreements, I wasn't able to update.

Apparently they have started auto-updating. I would do a battery pull and then re-register with the the network. Maybe even reprovision just for good measure and see if it updates. Sending the service books never hurts either.

I noticed they started the auto update the other day. I had done a "Start Provisioning" thru the mobile network menu and I updated to 60657. Def. noticed a major improvement on my signal. I gained two bars inside my office where I was only at two bars to begin with. Now almost full signal and less jumping from 1X to 1XEV.

hmmm I just reprovisioned and had my service books sent and still same prl....maybe it is by area.

It improves your ability to roam by updating the list of towers from which you can roam. If you aren't roaming then it won't affect you.

I just checked and my prl version shows 60656. I have a 8130. If the new version is 55, why do would I have 56?

This is an old thread. Rather than creating new threads every time a new PRL comes out, we've just been posting it in here. We really should have one thread where we can update the title and OP whenever a new PRL is released.
