Ok, I was wondering if it was a CDMA-only thing. I tried it on my gf's 8310 and it tried to dial instead of bringing up a status screen. Being on WAP I couldn't see his carrier or device so I assumed (and we all know what assuming does) that he was on Sprint (being in the Sprint forum) and therefore using a CDMA device.

Just got off of the phone with a Sprint rep in Shreveport, LA who said she would do it. Asked if there was a way I could update and she said no.
Is this true? or just a Sprint answer.
Yes that's correct. You have to call Sprint and ask them to flag your account for a PRL updated. Once thats done, you hang up and about a minute later, dial *2 and hit send. You will get a message saying that your PRL is now updating and to stay on the line. Once it's done you should get a few quick beeps and the call disconnects. Turn your phone off and on and your PRL should be updated.
i am having the same problem as a few prople on here
i dialed #4357 and i am getting a voice coming over the speaker telling me that the access code that i have dialed is incorrect and to please check the number and try again.
i tried like 10 times today and have gotten nothing.
As I said in my previous post, Sprint says it cant be done. How are others on Sprint finding out their PRL and dialing the code? I have dialed it with and without the asterick. Always get a recording. It appears eve6er69 is getting the same. I have a 8330 Curve. How are those on Sprint getting theirs? is it my phone or a Curve?
ooo okay i got it to work.... i didnt do the * before...dunno how i missed that... thanks for the help!
-feels dumb-

There's no guarantee that the new list has anything new in your area, so it may not affect you at all. I don't know any reason NOT to update, but if you aren't having any problems, it's certainly not necessary.
I just called and ran through the update, it said 'PRL download complete' or something similar but there was no change. I had 60650 and it still says 60650. Any reason why I wouldn't be at 60651 or 60652?

You need to let it keep running. It still has more to go even after it says "PRL download complete." Turn speaker phone on and listen to what voice says. When the download is complete and installed the call will end abrubtly.

Ah, that did it. Thanks. My PRL is now 60652!

Placebo effect at work, as any of you who ACTUALLY know what the PRL is would know. Hint - it's not a tower list. It's a "preferred roaming list"
Your phone has a home SID programmed into it - a SID is more than a single tower - for example, Alltel here in Montana uses the SID 1441 for the whole state plus Yellowstone in Wyoming - well over 100 cell sites ("towers")
The PRL also specifies what TYPE of service a SID will have (analog/digital/EVDO) and what channel blocks it'll be on.
A PRL update ONLY changes anything in your home area when a new service type is available (going from analog to digital or 1X to EV) - and that's all done years ago now that every SID is flagged for EV; or when new frequencies are in use (after mergers, buyouts, etc).
Your Sprint phone, on Sprint's native network, will NOT see signal strength improvements as a result of a PRL update. It just won't happen. Unless Sprint buys out someone else and adds them to the PRL.
What DOES change periodically - and the reason for most PRL updates - is the list of roaming partners to use. This can be good OR bad - carriers often REMOVE roaming partner SIDs when they believe they have that area covered fairly well with their own new towers. For example, there was a time when almost every Sprint SID was in the Verizon PRL - now there are only a handful.
On the other hand, when Verizon bought Alltel, suddenly EVERY Alltel SID was added to the PRL or increased in priority. Since Alltel has great coverage, that was a huge benefit for Verizon people.
If a carrier adds a single new tower though, that doesn't require a PRL update - the new tower will be added to an existing SID.
