I just received an official e-mail from RIM stating that there is a new software upgrade for my device. (The e-mail does not say which OS version is available)

So I decided to investigate and visit the official Blackberry site to see whats available. Currently, those who are on the official releases should have 5.0.0.484.

However, if you look closely at the different software packets, you will notice 5.0.0.6xx is available. I'm curious as to if anyone has downloaded and installed it yet. If its a subtle change such as sprint nav or some unnecessary application fixes, then I'll pass.

It's ok, you don't sound like a newbie. If you scroll down to the next, this is what it has:

    BlackBerry Handheld Software v5.0.0.1061 (Multilanguage)

    Package Version: 5.0.0.1061
    Consisting of:
    Applications: 5.0.0.624
    Software Platform: 4.2.0.285
    File name: 9630AMEA_PBr5.0.0_rel1061_PL4.2.0.285_A5.0.0.624_S print_L.P.exe
    File size: 101.77MB

So the question is, what significant difference (if any), is there between .484 and .624?

Can't wait to hear more feedback and get home to upgrade tonight. I am currently running a hybrid of .624, so i don't know that it will be too much of a change, but maybe I can get rid of the browser click issue...AND I started to experience that MMS audio issue after hanging up a phone call just this morning...I would be happy if that went away...it was getting a little hard to explain to my boss.

Browser click issues in 624 are exactly like 591 if you have 484 stick with it!

First check your Remove/Install programs in Windows and make sure you uninstall any OS's that are already on your computer. Then download .643 and install it onto your computer. Now you're ready to install the OS onto your phone, but don't use Desktop Manager - use "apploader.exe" located in your "c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader" directory. Plug your phone in, run apploader and you're good to go.

just got done with the upgrade to .624 about 40 minutes ago....ummm, I hope this extreme lag/temporary lock up is temporary...after I click to load something or when the phone goes into running something (ie: installing an app or even opening an application), it would lock up to where you can't move the track ball for like a long time...it even happened a few times already after I wake the phone up from standby and click on the Blackberry button to go to my applications...

DAMN IT, I think I just found a flaw or a crappy-*ss change for the worst (just like how they messed up by taking away the LOCK feature set to one of the convenience keys on top)....so I have a lot of MMS from a contact and I wanted to delete them since I saved them onto my media card already and it was lagging my phone....so I went to my message folder and searched the contact's name to pull up all my communications (MMS, SMS, phone log) from that person, and then I selected the latest date and chose "Delete Prior" to delete all my communications with that individual....well, prior to .624, whenever I did that, it would only delete all my "SEARCHED" items...however, now, I followed the same procedure as always, and it deleted EVERYTHING in my Messages folder...$%*@^*@....now I have to reload that onto my phone....thank goodness I backed up my phone....I gotta see if I missed something here...

Those instructions are correct. Just make sure to backup your phone and apps, and I would wipe the phone clean with BBSAK or BBMCP. You should be good to go.

+1 on skipping this and jumping to one of the leaks.

I'm running a .643/.601 hybrid that I whipped up and it's not that good. Going to try straight .643 and see if it's any better.

I haven't heard anyone having that bad an experience with .643 - check the thread in the leaked OS section, it's pretty much all good reviews. You may want to reinstall but wipe first, then test the OS without any of your usual apps installed/without restoring to make sure the problem really is the OS and not your configuration.

I just saw that .656 leaked for the 9700. Maybe after you test out straight .643 a .643/.656 hybrid could be good
