the sim is so it will connect to the Bell HSPA band.
It's not a CDMA device like your Curve.

The BB Bold 9700 and the 9000 work on the HSPA network. Those are the only 2 BB that will work on the new network.

so I could take my sim card from this bunk nokia and put it in those and all would work, im not worried about mins or data or text as our company has like a pool of mins data and text to share between the 20 of us so I've been told, thanx !

also, can I use a 9700 or 9000 from telus or rogers, or another carrier, only if they are unlocked right ?

    thanx in advance !

In theory, you can use any 9000 or 9700, from any carrier, as long as it's UNlocked. I say "in theory" because I've never done it myself with those specific devices on the new Bell network although I am about to unlock both my 9000 and 9700 for that reason alone.
