Do I need a T-Mobile branded Q10 in order to pull down the OTA update?

Or could I just purchase any old GSM Q10, slap in a T-Mobile SIM card, and expect to be able to get 10.2? The reason is I am having problems buying a T-Mobile Q10 and may need to just get an AT&T Q10 or the "international unlocked" Q10 -- and I want to know whether I'll have any issues getting the T-Mobile OTA update. Thanks!

All Q software is the same, so get Sachesi and use it to download/install the software. You don't even need the SIM card.

Data on how to get the update usin Sachesi can be found in the thread above.

I'd prefer not to use a leak but thanks for the suggestion.

Hoping anyone can shed some light on my original question: can I purchase an unlocked GSM Q10 phone that is not carrier specific, slap in a T-Mobile SIM, and expect to get the 10.2 T-Mobile update?

Basically, are software updates prompted by the SIM card or the phone?
(For example suppose there is a GSM version of the phone on Carrier X and they have not yet received the 10.2 update. Why complain that your carrier hasn't gotten the update when you could just slap in a T-Mobile SIM card and get the update that T-Mobile has just pushed?)

Absolutely. Both of my Z10s are unlocked and unbranded and were notified of the Tmo update when using Tmo SIMs. That's how it works with carrier updates. When either phone had no SIM installed they were offered BlackBerry's global update of 10.2.1.

The Q10 would be no different. Buy one unlocked and enjoy it.

This might be OT, but what happens if you get, say, another AWS carrier's (unlocked) phone to use on TMO, and this carrier has put out its own OS update? Whose 10.2.1 do you get notified for, the carrier (T-Mobile) whose SIM is in your phone or the carrier whose phone it was?

The SIM would drive the update in that situation assuming the phone is unlocked and the OS being suggested is newer than what's already installed.

I wish it were true for me!

I am using an unlocked Q10 SQN-003 (branded by Rogers, but ALWAYS with a T-Mo SIM) and it automagically upgrades to ROGER'S versions, when I let it.

I have had to de-install Rogers' updates several times, and revert back to 10.1.0.4200 in order to regain WiFi Calling each time.

    NOW I can't even do that, 'cuz I can't find a copy of a 10.1.0.4200 autoloader
So I am stuck with no WiFi calling, despite having a T-Mo sim and having updated to MyToobs's leak (10.2.1.2234)

Any advice would be appreciated, as I genuinely need Wifi calling!

    Johnny
