Almost all carriers, certainly the major providers offer upgrades, when on any contract plan. I just used mine with at&t, and theirs is every 18 months. Others have different lengths of service, before an upgrade is available.

US Cellular's is 18 months also.
You have to understand, thge point of them offering an upgrade is to get you on a renewed contract. Since they're basically giving you the phone at their cost, more frequent offers would serve them no purpose.

But it would be pretty cool for the customers to be able to upgrade yearly instead of after 18 months. Especially with how fast technology changes.

If you'd like to upgrade earlier then you should be signing one year contracts instead of two year contracts.
Last time I was in my us cell store, I was told that an upgrade to a normal phone (dumb phone) was 18 months, but if you upgraded to any smartphone, (including their touch screen phones with the 20 dollar plan, LG Bliss, Tritan, Moto Crush etc), even from a smartphone, you could do It after 12 months.

The 12 month upgrade is if you are going from a dumbphone to a smartphone. If you are going from one smartphone to another it's 18 months.
I would think with all the cell phone competition that would be one more thing they could use to lure customers by offering more freq updates. If we are basically paying their cost for the phone what do they have to lose by offering the upgrades. 18 months seems too long to go between new phones.

We're not paying their cost of the phone though, carriers offer subsidies on phones because they plan on recouping that cost over the life of the contract. If you shorten the period between phones it's making it more difficult for the carrier to recoup that cost...in which case they're probably going to raise the cost of various monthly fees so that they can recoup the cost of the phone faster.
You really think the Curve 8530 only costs USCC $50?
You are paying for the cost of the phone in your service contract. Over the course of the 18 months or so some of that plan goes toward the phone. They make money off the phones... maybe not upfront, but they make money. I mean my tour came out to be -$20 because I called in and got the black Friday price but still had a $70 mail in rebate instead of the $50. I will be paying for that over the next 18 months.
