if I buy a unlocked Passport, do i just take it to an at&t store to get a sim card? With the sim card comes a new contract, correct?

PS.... I like the look of the square better plus it's cheaper

Yes. Get a nano SIM card.

Not necessarily, it depends on what type of service you get: contract service (postpaid) or no-contract (prepaid or postpaid.)

So basically the sim card is free as long as i get some type of service?

Merely ask AT&T for a nano SIM card. They should give you one free. As simple as that.

Unless you currently have an iPhone 5s, 6 or 6 Plus, you just move your SIM to your new Passport

Yes, you can port to AT&T, but, I believe you're automatically on a contract. You might as well buy a phone from them...

Yes, they should be able to. Just make sure that you don't terminate your Verizon service beforehand; the number transfer should do it.

They do have BYOP pricing, but I'm not sure what the details are, i.e. at what point is it beneficial to do BYOP vs. a contract--how many lines, which data tier, etc.

    Bring phone to AT&T store.
    Activate with own equipment.
    No activation fee, no contract.
    Number can be ported in.
You will get a discount for having no contract.

If you port in -and- get a new phone from AT&T under the NEXT installment program, there may be a promotion.

If you buy it unlocked than there would be no contract. You can pick from postpaid plans (better service, access to roaming agreements, ect) or a prepaid plan (cheaper and no credit check) so it just depends on what you need. If your bringing your own equipment the plans are pretty much the same price, so if you have decent credit you'd do better going postpaid.
