I don't think that is true. I am a new customer and got the $65 unlimited international plan on mine.
unlocking the phone and using a cheap prepaid sim card from whatever country you're gonna be in seems like the cheapest solution.
The account has to have 90 day tenure, in order to add AT&T International Services.
Is this in addition to the domestic plan or does it replace it?
Also does this include voice?
That plan does not include voice, it's only for the feature. With out looking the plans (not work), it seems like it's a bundle package of the $30.00 unlimited data and another $35.00, for international data.
Doesn't look quite right though. AT&T doesn't have their new plans on the website, but there are a 20 MB ($24.99) and 50 MB (forgot this price) package, for international use that you can tack on to your account.
Would call into AT&T and talk with them.
It depends on what you need to use it for mostly. You can unlock it and use a local SIM when you travel but if you call back to the US it will still be expensive. The AT&T World Traveller plan sucks IMHO as it usually only saves you $0.30/min and most countries will still be $1/min or more.
I use the $65 international unlimited data plan and just email. It's great for using the GPS and navigation apps too. It replaces the $30 domestic data plan andrequires a 1yr continuation of use stipulation.
If you unlock it and use a local SIM then you won't get any of your push email or voicemail in an emergency etc. When I travel I don't need to make many local calls so although I got my phone unlocked "just in case" I don't plan on using a different SIM anytime soon.
If you need to call back to the US while abroad I don't think anything can come close to as cheap as just buying a calling card. If there is something I'd love to know about it too!
Thanks to all the responders.
I solved the problem as follows:
1. I got unlock codes from AT&T for both my Bold and my wife's Nokia 6555.
2. I added International data to my Bold.
3. I bought a prepaid sim card on-line and plan to install it on my wife's phone.
Now I can still use the best features of my Bold and make calls at a local rate from the Nokia.
I am sorry but that is not true. I am a first time AT&T customer, okay, I had service with them back in 1995. I switched from Verizon on November 3 and activated Unlimited International Blackberry that day.
It replaces the domestic plan and no it doesn't include voice. You must have a voice plan to get it for $65, if you don't have voice it is $69.95.
It's true, trust me, I work for AT&T. Although, there are exceptions, which looks like what you have :). I think they are determined off credit history, not sure. But, there's a message in our system that informs us that it's less than 90 days and if we try to add it, it alerts us to call for exception.
