...but my contract is not up until March 2011. I currently have a 8330 and would like to move up to the 8530 or maybe the Tour. If I go to Verizon right now and try to upgrade I'll have to pay $400 at least because my contract will not allow an upgrade.....however, if I were to buy a new Tour or 8530 Curve from Ebay or even the Verizon website and have it delivered to my home and activate it there or in the store will they still try to charge me a ridiculous amount?? Or can I just take it in there like a regular old phone and have it activated??

You can also change your ESN on the myaccount page on Verizon's website. Than call *228 option 1. I did that with my Storm2.

They may charge you a fee if you go into the store. Or you can just do what markhunsaker said or online for free.

Yeah, if you agree to another 2 years you can do an ugrade at the one year mark, which is very soon for you. And as it so happens the Tour 2 will be out by then!
