HTC Hero
Hi Everyone,
Im thinking of stwiching to the HTC Hero since I'm due for an upgrade and the HTC hero's Sense UI is really slick and eye catching!!! The only thing holding me from leaving my BB is the push yahoo e-mail service. For those of you who have the Hero, is the E-mail instant or is there a delay in receieving your e-mail??
Thanks!

No, Android OS doesn't support Yahoo mail for push. Only Gmail and Exchange mail are psuhed.

The HTC mail client will deliver your Yahoo mail but I believe you can only set to retrieve new mail at a minimum of every 5 minutes.

Bummer that really sucks!!! I want a big screen phone but the Storm will not be coming Sprint's way ever! and the Hero seems really neat but no Yahoo support!!!

It does support Yahoo mail, but just not push.
If you are interested in the Hero, an Android phone, powered by Google, why not just make the switch over to Gmail. Gmail is way better than Yahoo mail, IMO. Besides you will get the full Android experience with a Google account. There is more to email on Android platform.

My dad has the HTC Hero and setting up the Yahoo mail is a complete pain. For whatever reason Yahoo does not allow POP access without you paying for their plus service, which is I think $20 a year, or $30. Anyways, it's only that way for Android phones, Google vs. Yahoo, go figure.
A lot of people have gotten free Yahoo to work with imap, but it's a bad server protocol and I never could get it to work with the Hero. Ultimately, if you're serious about keeping your Yahoo account, you can setup a GMail account, forward your emails from Yahoo to Gmail (but again you have to have a business account or Plus) and reply from Gmail, but show your Yahoo address and forward from GMail to Yahoo. It's a PITA. Just change to GMail, unless you use Yahoo for business (which we do because our website is hosted there) then switch to GMail, it's a much better mailing system without all of the limitations.
Also, the HTC Hero is a pretty sweet phone, so I'm pretty certain you'd be pleased with the change.

what about live mail
Is the issue w/ yahoo the same as Live Mail?

To clarify -
Yahoo charges for POP polling and collection to everyone, not just Gmail. RIM has an agreement with Yahoo to make it free.
All other POP accounts can be configured to push through Gmail just like you get your POP accounts pushed through Blackberry BIS.
You are required to have a Gmail account to activate the phone. You do not have to use it, but will need it to use the market (app store) as well.
