I guess the first question is, are you planning on text messaging anyone? If so how much? It sounds like you are not planning on using this feature.

You can contact 611 and have customer service remove this feature from your phone so you will not be charged. I would recommend the basic text messaging package of 200 if you think you may use this feature. I believe it is only $5.00 a month.

If you know many people with a BB you can and should use BB Messenger to text. This service is included with a data plan at no additional charge.

Also note you get charged for incoming AND outgoing...so while it is $.15 per txt thats both ways

Just checked ATT website and you can send MMS with out a data plan but you are charged per message.

This is incorrect...on BB service you cannot send MMS without a data plan..I work for AT&T Data support, deal with this issue 5 days a week.

Nope,
AT&T will start charging $.20 for SMS starting March ( dunno if March 1st of by MArch billing cycle)

and $.30 for MMS

at&t is upping there pay per use for SMS and MMS to .20 cents and .30 cents come March. The reason for this is because every other wireless carrier is the US is charging the same.
