I am 15 months into my 24-month contract (Started late Oct 08) and my Curve 8330 is still the original I got it with. Lately, I've been annoyed by its shortcomings compared to other phones like the 8530 or the Tour. Is there a way to upgrade cheaply such as buying it from a retail store and bargaining with them? I don't want to extend my contract yet in case there's a new must-have phone coming out later in August (when I am eligible for $150 upgrade). Any suggestions or tips would be greatly appreciated. I am willing to spend upwards $100ish.

    Thanks.

You can't get upgrade pricing without renewing your contract, that's the whole premise of upgrading, the cost is offset by the contract extension...

Best you can do is sell your 8330 online for some $ and buy a used or new 8530. Used is going to be tough because it hasn't been out long enough.

New you are probably looking at ~$230-260, minus whatever you make selling your 8330.

Thanks Papped, I was just asking because my friend somehow got Best Buy to sell him an iPhone w/o upgrading, and got it for the upgrade price. I went there and talked to the same sales rep he worked with and didn't have any luck. Yes, he is telling the truth because I saw the reciept and the paperwork.

The best I've been able to find is if I have 18 months done on my contract, I can upgrade. Maybe just 3-4 more months.

If your a sprint premier customer your eligible for a upgrade every 12 months. So your already eligible. You get phones subsidized by signing or extending a contract. No way to get around that.

I got my 8330 in April, and today Sprint offered me a 8530 for $50.00.

    Why bother?

That's upgrade pricing though.. The general idea is that he didn't want to use his upgrade or was not eligible yet.

UPDATE: Called Sprint - got the Curve 8530 offer for $49.99. No additional contract time or anything. Have to decide by tomorrow whether I want this offer.

QUESTION: Is it worth the $50 to upgrade from the Curve 8330 to the Curve 8530? If so, what's the biggest difference? Thanks!

I just called on a technical question, and they told me that BTW, you are eligible for an upgrade.........I know I got the new phone in April.
I have 5 lines on my account and they all are eligible.
Maybe I should wait for the Bold/Tour with Wifi and flash and GSM
