T-Mobile have removed all Blackberry's from the retail stores near me.

I was thinking of upgrading from a Bold 9780 to either a Q10 or Z10, but Wifi calling is extremely essential to me.
BB Phones bought from stores OTHER than T-Mobile don't include WiFi Calling, from what I understand.

When asked if I could download T-Mobile's version of the Q10 or Z10 software and install on a phone purchased from someone other than T-Mobile, T-Mobile tech support says "we can't guarantee what you are intending to do will work, nor will we offer support if the phone isn't purchased from T-Mobile.

There is a lot of bad blood between these companies, but I digress.

So, long story short - if I bought either a Q10 or Z10 from Best Buy, Amazon, etc, has anyone successfully downloaded the latest software from T-Mobile, which includes WiFi Calling, and installed it on a non-T-Mobile branded Blackberry, enabling WiFi Calling?

    thanks

You should be able to order one online and have it shipped like we have to do for AT&T no?

Otherwise, you just need to make sure you pick the correct -1, -2, etc to match your bands for your carrier.

Yes, I could order one from T-Mobile, but they have a short, 14 day return policy, and a $50 restocking fee, so I am trying to eliminate any guesswork.
Also, in the UMA days, you had to somehow place certificates on non-T-Mobile Blackberry's to get WiFi Calling to work, and that can be difficult (I am trying to do that with a Curve at the moment, and am not succeeding).
That's why I was wondering if the old UMA/Certificate architecture had been replaced with a different method

isn't it just a software that you install? I'm sure someone can post a link of the bar file (I've installed the leak that was here the day t mobile release their os, so I'm assuming I do have the os from t mobile, but no wifi calling app on my phone).

UMA was a protocol that stopped working on OS7 and BB10, now we use wifi calling, which sound the same (not talking about sound quality, I'm talking about feature), but no hand off to 3g/wifi or vis versa, so when you receive a call, you better not move if you think you will loose the wifi while beeing on wifi calling

Well, I had a TMO sim card and stuck it into my Bell Z10 and I got wifi calling app. Unfortunately I can't test it cause I don't have wifi calling

No I live in Canada ! And my provider don't have wifi calling.

I only use a company called Roam Mobility that uses T-Mobile network when I roam in the US.

But I am confident that it BlackBerry 10, the app will work for you, no matter where your Z10 comes from.

I have a Q10 on Verizon and before the official VZW 10.2.1 was released I downloaded the T-Mobile official version from Sachesi.

    Country: 310
    Carrier: 260
    Phone: Q10
    Version: -5

That's how to get T-Mobile on a Verizon Q10. Everything ran smooth, but there was NO Wifi calling. Thus, if Wifi calling is a must I can tell you Verizon will NOT work. That said VZW is CDMA, so I'd check with someone else with a GSM based model like AT&T's. Nonetheless, I think you're out of luck and it's simply a T-Mobile feature.

Also, it's not a big risk. The Q10 is a beast. You'll have all the things you had plus everything that comes with BlackBerry 10. Tiny learning curve with HUB and gestures but once you get it down they're 2 of the best reasons to upgrade!

thanks. yeah, Verizon is totally different. And sadly, I need wifi calling for a few reasons, one being some places we routinely visit that have NO mobile service of any kind, but business calls must keep coming in.
I'm amazed how many, and how helpful the non-T-Mobile subs are in the T-Mobile forum.
Now, if some T-Mobile subs have tried this, that would be awesome

Hello. I've got a z30 from Verizon running 10.2.1.2234 and it's on AT&T. Everything is working great. I don't know about wi-fi calling as I've never have tried it.

    Yes. For T-Mobile, you'd want the STL100-3 Z10, or the SQN100-5 Q10.

As far as how you'd know, if the Z10 is AT&T or TMO branded, it will work on TMO. If the Q10 is TMO branded, it will work on TMO. There may be factory unlocked options as well, but I'd be more careful with them and confirm that they arethe models listed above.

ShopBlackBerry is a good place to buy these factory unlocked phones. They sell the models listed above.

That fit exactly, loaded it thru an autoloader. During my early stay at CB users advised me that every updates, may it be leaked or released from any carrier, was still a BlackBerry OS, hence it will fit as long as you have the right BlackBerry device model.

was there anything special, or difficult you had to do when installing T-Mobile's version of the OS to replace Roger's?

The OS are essentially the same. The only difference is that T Mobile has their wifi calling app added to it, and rogers has some of their app added to it.

The only thing is that if you have a Rogers phone, make sure to unlock it. I would suggest getting at phone from Telus/Koodo or Bell/Virgin. They are much easier to unlock.

Technically the 100-3 version for t-mo is the RFK121LW model. I believe at&t is RFF91LW. It shouldn't matter, however.

I have a Rogers' branded Q10, which I use with a T-Mobile sim, and worked excellently under 10.1.0.4200 including WiFi Calling (which I absolutely require, as I'm in Canada and T-Mobile has no coverage here) but I have downloaded and installed Autoloaders and bar-files galore and been unable to either get WiFi Calling to work, nor to get T-Mobile to send me any alert to download their update...

Couldja tell me how YOU got yours going?

    Thanks!

Just like Jerlexis said. I also bought a USA AT&T Z10 (which is the STL100-3, RFF91LW). I used an online unlocking company to get an unlock code. Once unlocked I popped in my T-Mobile SIM and updated to the latest T-Mobile update and got the WiFi calling app and WiFi calling worked. I now can go back and forth between AT&T and T-Mobile by just changing the SIM. I had a Bold 9900 that was unlocked and it would NOT get WiFi calling no matter what I tried. I was told by T-Mobile that with the older (9900) phones that unless it was T-Mobile branded WiFi calling would never work. As for the Z10, any unlocked STL100-3 version will work.
