So I was looking for a way to get a free unlock code for my 8900. I found websites that told me I could register to win a code but none were free. Then I found a forum post that said that T-Mobile would give you a free unlock code but that you had to have a certain amout of time with them and a bunch of restrictions. I've only been with them for a month. I figured the worst they could say is no. So I called the tech I talked to checked it out and put in the request. They don't have any restrictions. And the best part ITS FREE! Why got to a paysite. Its stupid.

Most websites that provide an unlocking service are NOT free... T-Mobile is a very good company to work with and they did mine when I asked... it does not hurt to ask.... and they are very quick.

att just unlocked another 8330 for me and the device wasnt active and im not a costumer, always have good luck unlocking device from the service providers

There are situations where an unlock code is required and the carrier, for whatever reason, will not unlock the device. In those situations where you have to have the phone unlocked, a reasonable fee of 10 bucks isn't out of line in my opinion.

Glad to hear..not all carriers will give you the code for free, but it's always worth a try. Like you said, worst case they say no.

Aren't there IMEI calculators which you could freely download? I've unlocked many Nokia phones using software freely available from the internet, why not for the Blackberry too?

No not for Blackberry, they require a special software that is not free and out there. It's well protected with security dongle, so you would need to have the dongle activated in order to be able to use it.

Yet, some free unlocking code provide out there online like Unlocking4Free that offers unlocking codes for almost over 1000 brands.
