The website says it does, but have recently been told by someone that it was NOT available, so im curious to know.

I thought it was a handset capability, and ran on the infastructure of the 3G network.

Can anyone confirm they get EDGE on an 8900 or Bold on Vodafone

I have had a couple on instances where edge was showing on the screen, but the phone refused to connect, and after a battery pull, it went back to GPRS.

    Cheers guys.
Their website boasts that they do, so surely they should get in trouble for that.

Yes, Vodafone does have EDGE on the network. Most major cities have this for example London, Bristol, Cardiff and Manchester.

It is available on the network in Manchester. It could be that the BTS your connected to does not have EDGE enabled.

I assumed Vodafone doesn't do EDGE. But, recently noticed it a few times on my bold 9700 in London.

Confirmation of the Voda/Edge situation from a moderator on the Vodafone eForums:-

"EDGE is old technology, and we've 'skipped' this to focus our attention on faster data service - HSDPA and beyond! There may well be a handful of rogue EDGE cell sites out there (perhaps from network sharing masts or for testing), but that couldn't possibly warrant us promoting it as a main feature to our network. We don't have plans whatsoever to increase EDGE coverage"

there was an internal memo regarding edge on vf a week or so ago, basically you will find it in some places as its been used to replaced failing 2g only sites, kinda makes sense, no-one would launch it `just because` but if your gonna replaced it, then do it properly eh

oh and 4G is available too (well, i have a 4G dongle, only 3g in my area, but lets see what happens eh
