    Short answer...yes. There are people that have been able to get it without the data plan, but its not easy.

    because i have the touch pro and they made me get a data plan but i just cancelled it after the first month. will they let me do that with the tour also?

    If you really want a bb w/o a data plan get a gsm phone like the bold. Much easier to setup than on cdma.

    well im gonna wait for the tour2 which has wifi so thats why i wanted to know if they make u have the data plan for the first tour

    Not to discourage you, but, people talk about wifi like it is the be-all end-all and it isn't. I started my BB experience with a Curve 8320 with WiFi. It was horrible. It never worked right. I finally got ticked and got rid of it. Maybe for some people it's great, but with my experience I could care less if a phone has wifi or not. I guess I just don't see what everyone else sees.

    It's required.
    There's no way out of it.
    All carriers are enforcing data.
    Look at Verizon, and how they're forcing data on just TEXTING phones.
