Are you a BES user?
sunkast
no it's BIS
I also just changed my wifes phone from 4.3 to 4.5 and hers is just fine! So not sure why the tech I spoke with told me that blackberry has changed 4.5 so you can't change emulation mode or the home page.
That's what I'm wondering too.
I can change both on my Curve with 4.5, so I think the tech was mistaken.
Oh finally someone else has the same problem. I changed my husband's curve over to 4.5 and it is doing the same thing. I was beginning to think it was just his phone or that I did something wrong. I did find that if you hit *go to* in the menu you can get to the other options. But it's a pain to always have to do that.
Mine did this before I even got the 4.5 update. I actually had to install the games and more app, and then that brought up the "Go To" selection. From there, I selected google and was able to make it my home page.
I also had to do a little bit of taking the battery out type of stuff. Hope that helps!
yeah i had the same thng for a day. a battery pull fixed everything
I tried the games and more app trick, now I have three icons that go directly to the mobile blackberry help page. Several battery pulls and no change. Any more ideas? Please? Thanks for all the help, BB owners are the best!
Go into options and actually see if the app got installed and didn't overwrite each other three separate times. I would just hide the icons if you cannot get rid of them. But I would check in your apps first.
Options>Advance Options>Applications
I had the same problem and found out how to "fix" it by trial and error.
Go into options>advanced options>service book and delete the "Blackberry Help" browser config.
You'll have to do it every time you do a reset.

I know this is an old thread but to start the "story": I was having trouble signing into "mobi" sites with the BB browser (Curve 8330 - 4.5.127). When I was doing a search I found out about "emulation mode" & "use current" w/c I didn't have. I then started my search & found this solution.
I just wanted to say "Thank You, gimemoore for the helpful tip. It worked, I now have a fully functioning browser, can log on to any "mobi" site & can set my homepage to where I want it.
Thanks again...
Wow I've been having this problem since upgrading from .89. Finally a fix that at least puts it back(if only semi temporarily) to the way it was.

Glad I revived this old thread then since it helped you too. I did a soft reset & the "fix" was still there & everything is still working like it should. I don't know about a BP but at least we have something thats workable!!!
Yeah I did a batt pull to check and it comes back but the fix is simple enough. I wonder if when I do my next os upgrade if I can not install bbhelp and that would permanently fix the issue.

That question will have to be answered by an expert.
But I will remember the fix when I update my phone if it happens again.
I deleted "Help" but never thought to delete the "config". I don't know enough about these phones & it's frustrating at times...
Hopefully someone will jump in here who knows...
Maybe I have had a little luck on my side but I have successfully locked in my browser through Google with .89, .127, and now .138. With .138 I did the standard Browser>GoTo and logged into Google. I then went into Menu>Options>Browser Config. Emulation mode set to Blackberry, Start Page set to Start Page. When I got down to Home Page Address, .138 would not let me change it. I hit menu and then Clear Field, went down to Use Current and clicked on it. The field changed to Google. I then went over to the red phone button on the right and pressed it. I then went to Options>Advanced Options>Browser. I clicked on both "Internet Browser" options and went to "Close". There was a slight delay before any more commands would work but the end result was that my browser stuck and I am a happier hiker because of it. I apologize if this does not work for you but I think I have these steps correct. I monkeyed with this a bunch before I got it to work. My browser sticks...even after a batt pull.
Ha, hiker you are my hero. :D. I just locked it in on .160 and it survived the batt pull.

Thanks...glad I could help. I wasn't sure I remembered the correct steps as I tried a gazillion different combinations.
I don't know that I followed the exact steps of if was a slight varient of one of those gazzillion combinations but the end result is wonderful.
Thx again

When I updated to .160 I had to reinvent the wheel again. It seems that every time there is a new OS we have to find a new way to lock in the browser. Glad you found a way to make it work. I had to do a batt pull after the update to get to the Start Page to be able to change the Home Page Address. From there it was slightly different than .138....but alas, a few attempts to get it to stick.
i_hiker, I have to tell you ---
I updated my OS on my Curve 8330 to .160 yesterday & the fix for browser on the .127 stayed there & I didn't have to do anything b/c it was all good. Shhwweeetttt!
So I updated my husbands phone's OS last night & it was all messed up. I tried fixing it last night but nothing worked. Today I called an Alltel CSR & he "pushed some content down to his phone" (I think that's what he said). I went into my husband BIS site which the CSR helped me create an account for & pushed his email service books.
Tried, again, to fix his browser & bingo. It is fixed. I just did 2 BP's & all is well. Thank you again, for helping us with this "fix".
Especially when the CSR told me that .160 has NOT been tested on Alltel's network yet & that some people are having difficulty with downloading "pdf's, excel sheets, etc" in e-mail. I'm not telling anyone this as "gospel", it's just what this CSR told me today.
Thank you, again, i_hiker!!
Double post but months apart...
I updated my PC to Windows7 & had a heck of a time getting DM 5.1 installed but it finally did this morning.
And of course it had to update the phone as well.
And of course it broke my BB browser again.
Found your solution, again. It's all fixed & I'm happy.
Now have to try to fix DEP in Windows7. It's completely busted & a program won't run. It's always something...
Thanks (again)
yes you can change it! I have Google set as my home page. But this only works until you do a battery pull. Then you have to do it again. Go to advance options then service books. Click service books and delete the BlackBerry help service book. And its done! Set your home page to what ever you want!
