While Verizon has pretty good service, T-mobile's new international data coverage has suddenly made it much more attractive that I am contemplating about breaking my contract and switch. Would the phone still work with 4G data at least domestically with T-mobile?

No. Only on 2G, unfortunately. The Verizon Z10 does not have T-Mobile's LTE or 3G/HSPA+ bands.

It's a little better. You'll get LTE everywhere TMO has it, but HSPA+ only in their UMTS 1900 (refarmed) markets.

If Telcel uses band 2 (850 MHz) and band 5 (1900 MHz) for UMTS, then yes. If not, find out what they use, and consult this thread here.

Also why doesn't bbm operate on edge data? I think edge would be sufficient for bbm, wouldn't it? Thanks for the great previous answers!

Does your screen show an edge connection, or an EDGE connection? If it's all lower case, that means you don't have data service, just voice and text.

yeah, lowercase =/. When I initially bought the sim card bbm did work, I'm thinking it might have came with some free mb of data at the time of purchase.

I don't know about Filipino carriers off the top of my head, but the STL100-4 does have Indian carriers' 3G band (2100 MHz.)

You mean at better than 2G speeds? Answer: any carrier that uses band 1 (2100 MHz) or band 8 (900 MHz) for 3G/HSPA+, or band 13 (700 MHz) for LTE.

Although raino answered you, if you are in USA the best carrier will be the carrier that is already offering the device, just look up the device # they are offering if you are unsure. I think Z10 did very well in terms of compatibility in USA and Canada and in most places throughout Europe.

I just LOVED the feeling and build of that phone, too bad they didn't have 10.2 back then..

UMTS 2100 is in use in a lot of countries in the world, and UMTS 900 I believe is used in Europe, maybe Japan, and Australia. Do a Wikipedia search for list of UMTS networks

LTE band 13 I believe is used only by Verizon.
