Airtel recently rolled out 4G services in New Delhi but to my dismay they tell me my BlackBerry Passport is not supported on the 4G network as it does not have the band. Does anyone have the same problem? Any solution to it? Will upcoming BlackBerry update address this issue? Using one of the best handset in the world and unable to get 4G, what an irony.

Airtel's LTE service appears to be on Band 40, which means they're using some sort of proprietary nonsense cooked up in China instead of global GSM bands.

No BlackBerry has such bands, which means until Airtel gets their act together, no LTE.

I'm guessing Delhi has a band 40 LTE network, in which case yes--your Passport will not get 4G. In Hyderabad, apparently they have a band 3 LTE network--with which the Passport is compatible.

Edit: I am able to use the 4g in Gurgaon and Delhi, guess certain areas don't have good coverage

Airtel has launched its 4G service in two bands 1800 Mhz and 2300 Mhz. Ericsson is providing the network for FD (1800 Mhz) and Huawei for TD (2300 MHz) network.

So how is one to know which network is being deployed here? Have they made a list of markets and respective network types there public?

The carriers may publish PR pieces about where they plan to roll out LTE, but I doubt they publish which network it will be. So a good place to look up the latter--although not 100% conclusive--might be publicly accessible government records of the sales of LTE licenses. These records could then be cross-referenced with the carrier announcements.

Maybe TRAI documented the license sales but just hasn't gotten around to publishing the records.
