i'm currently in the process of buying a blackberry curve 8310 that is through alltel. I need to unlock it to use it on cellular one. Can I do this with the instructions listed on the first couple of pages? Sorry if this is a repeat I kind of gave up looking on the first couple of pages.

Hah, I know I could have taken the easy way out and ask T-Mobile. BUT, I just wanted to prove to myself that it can be done. Unlocked my T-mobile 8320 with my laptop!
Search is your friend, I think I'll unlock my wifes Storm and see if my sim works....

OK, I phoned T-Mobile to request the subsidy unlock pin on numerous occasions. They said they can only give me the pin if I write a letter to them which could take up to 28 days. Is there any other way?

    Also I'm from the UK.

The easiest way to unlock a phone is to get the carrier to provide it for you. But if for some reason, you can't, then paying for an unlock code/system is the next step.(This has been mentioned 1000000000000000 times)
Now if all else fails, and you like "tinkering" there is another way, or if you have exceeded the limit of number of times you can enter the code. You can still unlock it and reset the number of attempts. I don't know the details on the forum rules if I can provide that kinda knowledge, so I'll refrain unless I get a green light from a mod. Just know there are other ways, it may not be the easiest way, but just know that there is a way, and search.
BTW, I do not gain anything from this, I do not provide services for payment. If you're local I can help free of charge. All of this is actually public information, you just need to know where to look.
Sorry for the long winded post.

I have a tmobile RAZR and am getting a BB curve 8310 (AT&T). The guy that is selling it says that his AT&T BB will work with my Tmobile SIM card. He says he has the unlock code and it is a 9 step process. Will it? Is this risky? Should I just keep looking for a Tmobile Curve?

There's a way to check for sure if the phone is unlocked or not(heres how: http://forums.crackberry.com/f52/how...unlocked-17336). If it is unlocked, then yes it will work with any GSM network.

Ok so I'm new here and I have a ATT BB Curve 8310, I looked through a lot of post about unlocking, I decided to call ATT and see if they will give me the unlock code without paying for it, and they did-these are the instructions the gave me:
INSTRUCTIONS: INSERT SIM CARD, POWER ON, TURN OFF RADIO-WIRELESS OFF OPTION, SELECT OPTIONS, ADV OPTIONS, SIM CARD, HOLD ALT, TYPE MEPD, HOLD ALT MEP2, ENTER CODE, PRESS ENTER, REBOOT PHONE. IT SHOULD BE UNLOCK.

Ok so I tried this 3x, and I keep getting this code error message, I have 6 tries left, I call ATT back to verify my code and it was right. So does anybody know why I am getting this message, or are their instructions wrong.

    Thanks

Where am I supposed to type MEPD then MEP2? When I go to Options-Advanced Options-SIM card, do I just start typing the above?

Just purchased an unlock code from GSM Phone Source and followed the instructions everyone has listed here in great detail (which was very helpful, thanks!!!) but I keep getting the same code error message that someone above described. I now have 4 tries left before I assume my phone is locked permanently. Can someone help me figure out whats going wrong. I emailed GSM Phone Source for additional info, but haven't gotten a reply yet. And I check and re-checked and had a 2nd party check all the numbers to make sure I'd made no mistakes on the entry or what I had provided the folks that gave me the number. Still no luck. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
