Don't know about Sasktel, but Verizon had our 8330 GPS locked down to all apps. except Verizon's VZNav till the 4.5 OS. Now BB Maps can access the GPS in the 8330.
From the other threads, it doesn't seem that anyone on Sasktel is on 4.5 yet. It might be worth a shot to try BB Maps using OS 4.5

As far as I know, there's no workaround for this, correct?

I was able to put 4.5 on my SaskTel curve. While on 4.3 I could access GPS. It found my location, but it was on a hwy, go figure.
Sasktel doesn't have the gps locked out. I'm using OS 4.5 and the gps works. The receiver isn't very good though. It usually takes several minutes to get a lock on the satellites. This matches with what users from other carriers say. You have to be in a clear area to get a fix on the satellites.
I use google maps. It uses cell towers to get an approximate location. It's usually accurate to within a few blocks.
If I want to use gps, I usually start up the Blackstar program to get a fix on the satellites then open the mapping program.
If you want to use gps with a curve a lot, you'll need an external gps receiver.
I have a curve 8330 on Sasktel and now have gps working well thanks to this thread: hxxp://forums.crackberry.com/f109/ok-guys-gals-gps-fix-here-152147/
just subbed telus values for the sasktel ones. before that my gps reception was hit and miss with more misses. it's not that the gps receiver is weak, but the settings on the sasktel phones somehow make locking onto sats difficult but not impossible. it's weird but after tha chages i'm easily getting 12 birds where before i struggled to get 6 on clear skied bald prairie.
if you look in the telus forum under gps fix there is a guide.
you have to use qpst and change the gps settings. really easy.
Thanks, I'm stuck because my 1 and 2 ports are in use and RIM is on 4 and 5, so I'm not sure how to get around this. Me = computer dummy unless I have a tutorial.
oh yeah i remember reading your post in that thread.
iirc, you don't need to change them if you have a sasktel phone. you can skip the whole thing until you get to the part where you open qpst (make sure you have the right version and build for your phone). you just need to change the com ports if you need to find out the service code.
but sasktel's is the default 000000 so you can skip all that stuff.
This worked real easy. Now i have 11 sats inside on Sasktel curve. Used telus info. Sasktel default spc is 000000 so you can skip all but just the QPST stuff.
No after I followed the work round for the GPS, mine works just fine.
I stared off with the Telus on then went back to the Sasktel settings and it still works.
It does take some time to lock on may be 2-3 mins.

I am working on the GPS crack. I have just completed the "Find Text Passages" and have to enter the ##XXXXXX on my BB. How do you enter that on the BB? I am at my desktop on my BB and cannot just type the symbols?
