It appears that the last email I received was around 1 am. Before I decided to visit this site, I reset my phone several times to no avail. Still could not receive emails. A quick call to my provider, Sprint, confirmed that there was a nationwide outage with BIS.
Here in Virginia, Verizon, Tmobile, At&T, and Sprint have the same problem. No emails incoming. But those with the gmail client app are still getting their gmail emails delivered to their devices.
Does VZW have any liability over this? It's becoming far too frequent.
No. The TOS don't promise 100% uptime. Sort of like with your ISP...
However, RIMM simply MUST do a better job at being transparent regarding outages. Their servers, their responsibility. It shouldn't take 30 minutes of Googling to find their 5 line statement to CNBC regarding this outage. They need, IMO, a status page where users worldwide can go and, at a glance, view the status of RIM services in their area/by carrier. Take a look at the OpenDNS status page. Or Google Mail's status page. Clean, simple, easy to access. The fact that they don't even have a statement posted in the PR room on their corp site is just bad business.
I've got full service back in SW Missouri with VZW. Hoping it stays that way. As far as I know, it was down from about 0230 to 1000 hours here (Central time)
