Go to mobile.blackberry.com then Instant messaging for Blackberry Smartphones.

And no it does not use text msgs. This is the one from RIM.

Edit your title if you still can. It's available on T-Mobile as well. Maybe other carriers too.

Are you sure??do you have any info to back this up??? please dont take that in any wrong way as i dont wanna come off rude in anyway im just really skeptical cause we all know how VZW loves to make extra money anyway they can and i would hate to get a huge bill due to texts like i got with mobileIM

AIM is a pre installed app on tmobile and I believe sprint, but for verizon there is no aim app you have to use there IM service to access aim.

that why the post is titled as is........

Only on certain models (the 8320 and maybe 8120). Up until today, my 8100 couldn't download AIM and only had the option for OZ.

Well its' the same type and build as Yahoo and Google Talk that comes from RIM, so I would almost be positive it's uses Data. And It's not the VZW app from their home page.

Hmmm sounds good... im truly hoping your right cause it works flawlessly i would just hate to find out it sms cause we all know 500 messages can go very quick and then after that its .10 per message

I see what your saying but if you were to go to the page a while ago it was saying that it was not carrier supported or device supported, so my thinking is maybe overboard, but if it were to download can it be configured to say hey Verizon he/she is using AIM start billing....

I would be willing to bet it uses Data, Like I said it's the exact same type of app as Yahoo and Google.

right now i have unlimited IN and 500 outside the network for friends on other networks for $10...
unlimited texts IN and OUT is $20 i know it doesnt seem like much but i barely use the 500 because most of my friends are verizon customers so they fall on the unlimited side but if i were to use this app and it was sms vs data then i know i will def go over...
