    That is true. But is $10 a month X 24 months = $240 enough of a difference?

I did the math and excited that I would have to pay more than $240 if I had to buy a Q10 outright.

It's actually 15 to 20 per month in difference.

Look it up on the Rogers website, you save 15$ per month.

And if someone is getting the iPhone 6S plus, then, they need a special plan that cost 20$ more per month compared to the BYOD plan

    Yeah that's true.

So you can decide if you can get the phone outright for $480 or less.
If you can find the phone outright for less than that, it is better to buy the phone outright. If you cannot find the phone for less than 480, then it is better to go for a contract.

It just depends on each phone and situation. There are times when a flagship phone can cost up to $600 and you can buy the phone for $480 with a two year contract.

Are you forgetting the upfront charge on the premium phones?

That is why I said it depends on the phone.

I got my Q10 through Rogers In March 2014 It was under its "Smart Tab" for some reason with 0 dollar upfront charge. Since it was under "Smart Tab" I only paid $10 per month for the phone. So over two years. I paid $240 for the Q10. At that time, the Q10 was still being sold for over $600 from Shop BlackBerry.

So buying the phone unlocked OR from the carrier is not always the cheapest. It depends on the circumstance and you have to do your math.
