Hi, yesterday I started a thread to figure out if I could use a Z10 or Z30 as an iPod touch replacement (meaning strictly wifi from the get go).

I decided on the Z10 for the sharper screen/portability/cheaper price. Now I am thinking I may want the option of having a cheap pay as you go plan in the future.
    1. I live in the US so which model would I need?
    2. Also if I buy online how do I know which model I am getting? Any tips?

(I would like to avoid the STL100-1 if possible, because of the purported slower processor).
    Thanks.

Well the Z10 is cheaper right now, smaller so more portable??? I just switched to a Z30 and both screens are clear and bright. So that's a non-issue.
STL-4 are VZW. They have some good deals.

STL100-1 is not slower. The only difference is that it doesn't support LTE networks

For AT&T, T-Mobile or other GSM carriers, you will need the STL100-3. For Verizon, you will need the STL100-4. There's no Z10 for Sprint.

As to how to make sure you're getting the right one, look for LTE band listings. This is how they should read:

STL100-1: none (it does not have LTE bands)
    STL100-2: LTE 800/900/1800/2600
    STL100-3: LTE 700/850/1700/1900
STL100-4: LTE 700 (this is not the same 700 as the STL100-3.)

And if you don't see anything listed, ask the seller for LTE bands/which Z10 it is. A lot of time, they try to offload -1s and -2s.

Maybe I should of said "pocket-ability" instead of portability.

Alot of people who own both the z10 and z30 have mentioned noticeable pixelation on the z30 screen in comparison. I just know for myself that it would bug me. Plus I am looking for a replacement for my 4th Gen Ipod Touch, which has a ppi of 326 while the z30 is 295 ppi. I may be wrong though.

You would need STL100-3 if you are going to be using AT&T or T-Mobile in the US. STL100-4 for Verizon. I currently have both a STL100-2 and a STL100-3. I bought the STL100-2 from the UK a year ago, which works fine in Europe, but it does not get anything more than 2-3G when I use it in the US on T-Mobile. So, I recently bought the STL100-3 direct from ShopBlackBerry, and it gets 4G on T-Mobile.

Do they list the STL # on ShopBlackBerry? If so I'll go that route.
    Thank you

You use it on 2G. Not everyone wants to use a phone on 2G especially when there are better alternatives available.

They may not. But those are STL100-3.

I don't remember if they specifically mentioned STL100-3 or not, but they say it's good for use on AT&T and T-Mobile USA, and that would mean STL100-3. And, that's exactly what I got when I received the phone.
