    From the latest editorial on how to get Google Apps working on a BB10 device :

    "... There are a few issues however, one being that most apps that require Google Services aren't fully functional (or functional at all). ... The fix does take quite a bit of work and you'll need some techy know-how, but if you're up the challenge and really want to get those Google apps running on BlackBerry, you can certainly give it a shot and see how it turns out."

    How to get Google apps working on BlackBerry OS 10.2.1 | CrackBerry.com

    Come on - pu-lease don't think this is in any way a fix or anything other than a huge kludge! Every time I start thinking longingly about a return to Blackberry I read something like this. A device or capability that requires this level of workaround isn't suitable for anyone other than a hobbyist. Seeing the capability promoted in this way leads me to believe the forums need to be split into "User" and "Hobbyist" sections so those of us who want tools that can actually do the job can accurately assess what Blackberry can deliver for us.

    <end rant>

    The user hobbyist idea makes a lot of sense right now especially with a lot of the threads popping up lately.

    You know whats really sad? Android and google play get more love on crackberry than BlackBerry and BlackBerry world

    App Gap was never present for me tbh. Every app that I really needed has been on the device or in BlackBerry World from day 1.
    It is the Game Gap that WAS present for me :P

    No the app gap isn't closed. But to contemplate returning to BlackBerry at this point thinking it is seems like an odd expectation. Unless you've been living under a rock. So pu-lease spare us. Come back in two years or so. They'll have your apps or be dead. In the meantime you can continue to enjoy whatever drives you back here.

    Sometimes I wish Blackberry would remove android run time from BB. It's easier for me to say because I have a Nexus 7. I only have native apps installed on my z10.

    Blackberry needs to stop leeching off of Android and convince top name developers to develop apps for the platform. I don't care how.. it just needs to happen.

    If you don't have any Android applications installed, it won't start.
    You've never downloaded an Android application from BlackBerry World?

    Nobody credibly claimed there was no more "app gap".

    Here's the deal: because Android is Open Source, ANYBODY can run it. The catch is, not all Android apps will run on "straight Android". The OEM's usually add their own UI with proprietary hooks, and Google themselves have proprietary components (Google Play Services being the most important). Any Android app that depends on any of these will not run properly on BB10, period.

    There are literally hundreds of thousands of Android apps that DO run without these components, though. It certainly improves the situation.
