Good article. I think it is a great idea to do that for the lower end device market.

This will work. Idk if I believe it 100% but there is the rumor I don't believe 100% that's been going around about Sony. Guess we'll find out when the proof is in the pudding

If Sony does end up licensing BB, I would have to make a very difficult choice as I am a fan of both companies.

And because Sony tends to play the spec game, I think I would be leaning towards them!

I expect BB10 to be licensed out to OEMs for tablets. Many big players, such as Acer, Sony, HP and Dell, currently have no real offerings for tablets. Given that iOS is locked down, Android is only profitable for Samsung and Amazon and Microsoft's Surface has killed OEM interest in Windows 8, it leaves a big door wide open for tremendous partnerships for BlackBerry 10. I believe that the upcoming PlayBook update to BB10 will be a proof of concept for OEMs and if they're happy with it, we could see BB10 tablets by these guys for Christmas 2013.

I'm not a big fan of this idea. If it does get licensed, and there is something wrong with the device the news headlines would nail BB to the cross.

We know that BlackBerry cannot continue to sell the BBOS devices at a loss per unit. (One can never make up the shortfall through volume) If BBRY utilizes the economies of scale of a Lenovo, or Sony, that would be a wise business move. I, for one, think this will help eliminate one of the headaches that a relatively small company faces when they try to create a device and software from the ground up. I may be wrong, but the current devices are not made by BlackBerry, or RIM before it....but by offshore manufacturers. Is this not just solidifying the company cash flow situation more completely?
