So, anyone else find it a little funny how Yahoo's Marissa Mayer has been trash talking BB and they are the ones to disappear first?? Oh well...

Well, there was quite a bit...nevertheless it was 57 million in trash talk. I don't get where the OP is going though... BlackBerry could have easily be swallowed... but no buyers

    Thanks... I remember that.

But she didn't specifically say BB10 devices weren't smartphones. I always took it as a tech chief looking at where the market was headed at the time.

Yah, being renamed, acquired, and Marissa Mayers will not be transitioning with it...

I guess that means nothing, nevermind...

They are not going to keep the name. It will be renamed to something else (forgot what it is now). So while the assets will still be there, "Yahoo!" won't be... Or have I been reading wrong, please inform.

But BB as a company is still going, albeit with a lot of restructuring, while Verizon plans to rename their search engine to something else and Marissa Mayer will not be going along with the ride.

I suppose someone buying BB and renaming it or simply absorbing their patents and remaining assets would have been a better outcome? *shrug*

Unreal that yahoo was even worth 4 billion to verizon. The only thing I've used them for in the past decade was their fantasy football.

That's not what I'm saying...it was a possibility. And I mention she wasn't going , she has a 57 million dollar severance package

Marissa was a poster-child for the fact that the real problem is overpaid, overworshipped CEOs in and of themselves - not the lack of gender diversity among them.

And yes, karma - comes to bite you on your white, privileged @ss.

Her job was to shake up a struggling company , very little difference between her and what Thor was suppose to do...except she was able to get a sale together. I'm no fan of her, but she is completely employable by another struggling company ...maybe a replacement for Chen.. Lol..im joking I love Chen

So someone felt that Yahoo! Is worth buying, yet nobody feels BB is worth buying.

Sounds to me like a win for Yahoo's shareholders.

    Not exactly...

The parent company will be a new holding company named Altaba, but Yahoo itself will still be a brand.

Ah ok, I read somewhere that it will be renamed to that. I guess they were misinformed, and then so was I because of them, lol.

I don't think I ever made any argument over who was in a better position. And I couldn't care less about the shareholders. I was merely talking about the brand name itself. But anyway, even then I was going off an article I read that incorrectly stated that the brand will be renamed, so doesn't matter anyway...

It is possible that the brand will be changed.
    Verizon will own overlapping services.
For example, Yahoo Mail and AOL Mail.
I can't see them keeping both. They will likely merge one into the other.
I guess it is possible they will get rid of both brands and go with Verizon Mail or something.

AT&T buys Directv and is looking at merger with Time Warner....

    Verizon buys AOL and Yahoo....

    "Altaba"... duh!

What a brainstorming accident. Mix of "Altavista" (oh, those were the days!) and "Alibaba" (Chinese shopping and trading platform), one of their major holdings... ?
