x10 Smart Home
Has anyone used their BB as a smart home controller?
Current BB 8310 user. It's falling apart (hard user). Shopping for a new phone iphone 3gs or BB Bold. I probably will stick with the BB. So anyways...
Looking online at what seems to be old technology (news to me). Several sites are talking about x10 or Z-wave. They claim that you can set up a wireless remote control system. Up to 16 plug in appliances/outlets can be opperated via the internet and or web enabled phone.
smartlinkhome.com or activehomepro.com
Looks Cool!

I have an x10 setup at the house here and love it. I had mine running off of email using Outlook.

Id like to know this as well. Can you run x10 apps from a BlackBerry?

Not sure why you would really want a program for it. The X10 communication will be done one of two different ways:
1. website - you have your x10 controller hooked up to a server that runs a website. There are several software suites that will do this already. You then log into your website and click on the pictures for what you want to do.
2. email - Again there are software suites with this integrated. However I simply found a dos utility that I could send x10 commands through the command prompt. I created some simple bat files for each of the commands I was interested in sending. Then I created a rule for each command in Outlook with appropriate keywords.

I use X10 for one or two hard to get to lamps in a full room......
We have a bunch of stuff stored in this one room in our house with the lamp on the far side of the room. We often need to go in there to get stuff and I always trip over stuff getting to the lamp.
So I FINALLY, bought an X10 Socket Rocket for the lamp and a wireless switch. Awesomeness.
