For me, the software is most important. Frankly, I think the Z10 hardware is just fine.

That's only because BBOS hardware was soooo far behind times, even at it's best. Compared to competition bb10 hardware is a few steps behind.

Z30 is equal in cpu gpu to moto X. It's not that far behind.

Better software, cause that's features I could use right now.
Better hardware does in most cases mean better performance but rarely push new technologies I really need right now.
On the other hand new phones with high performance specs usually attract more people than new software for 'older' phones?

And yeah, I really need at least an octacore cause I really really floor my Z10 with all the productivity I put it up to. :P

Hardware. You can always upgrade software on demand, but not hardware. It goes Platform. Unless you have deep pocket. Change hardware is a lot to ask for.

If the hardware is made properly, then all we would require is updated software. But we are humans in which the society we live in makes us want new hardware because for the first 5 mins it comes out we have the newest latest device.
My z30 is a great phone I'd be happy with it for a year or two with constant software updates.

I might start with lower weight - the Moto X is only 130 grams vs the Z30's 170 Grams

Or how about the screen - The Samsung S5 has 1080 x 1920 pixels, 5.1 inches (~432 ppi pixel density)
whereas the Z30 has only 720 x 1280 pixels, 5.0 inches (~294 ppi pixel density).

What about external storage - the S5 microSD, up to 128 GB and the Z30 microSD, up to 64 GB

    Camera ? S5 16 MP, 5312 x 2988 pixels, phase detection autofocus, LED flash and the Z30 8 MP, 3264 x 2448 pixels, autofocus, LED flash

Of course a slower processor on the Z30 too.

It is the Z30's screen which bothers me more than the other aspects.

Comparing the S5 to the Z30. Lol. Seriously... the screen is 720p and close to Moto X screen. But because it's slightly smaller the ppi ends up to be higher. The battery is the heavy part of the Z30 and the reason why it can achieve 25+ hours

OK if they compare it to the S4, the S4 still is better in all of the categories mentioned, and it was released just after the Z10 and we'll before the Z30.

The S4 and Z30 aim for different goals. S4 wants the better screen Z30 wants the better battery life. Also touchwiz slows down that hardware so it's not like we can just compare numbers.

While the hardware is good as is, maybe a little more internal storage, software updates are most welcome.....However, new phones have gone beyond having something that's adequate, and have become fashion and social accessories, and of course for the technology freaks, technolust will always make any new phone desirable. For instance, if a new qwerty BB10 device comes out, the Q10 will no longer be adequate for me.

I remember when the Z10 came out I was using a 9900 I wanted a Z10 badly, I really could understand the strange things Apple fans did to get their phone, well........not really, wouldn't sleep outside a store for days for any phone really, but yeah.......new phones are desirable, anything new is really.....

Here is a great comparison - Nexus 5 $499 and Z30 $699 at Bell - again a much better screen on the Nexus.

I agree that a phone is not a fashion statement - but an excellent camera and screen are a must for me.

Right now, my phone is not at a point where it feels impeded by the hardware, so I'd prefer energies be spent on continuing to improve the software. Good progress so far, but more needs to occur.

Yes - The Z30 has a robust build but 170 grams plus case it is too heavy.

Speaking of the Z30 battery - GSMArena Blog

All sorts of comparisons on this site - some are better and some are worse. There are some are much better. BB is not "best in class".

I don't think you buy a Z for the hardware, price, ecosystem or reliability and support. That leaves the OS as its best feature.
