    Hi,

I am looking into buying a used 8320, unlocking it and using it in an Eastern European country with a local sim card. There is no Blackberry service in that country and no data plan. My biggest concern is: Will I be able to use the phone's WiFi capabilities to access internet, gmail, some apps using a WiFi connection?

    Thanks

Wifi will work, just make sure that the blackberry uses the right frequencies when connecting via the sim card.

Wifi will work even without a sim card installed but some apps don't like to use the wifi.

I don't think google likes to use the wifi.... But they might now (checking gmail and gmaps now)

    Thank you.

As I understand, Gmail app or the Gmail e-mail push will not work, correct? In addition, unlike the 8120 for which T-mobile requires additional $9.99 per month for WiFi usage, T-mobile 8320 WiFi has no limitations aside from frequency issues, correct?

NO!! The $9.99 plan is for email only. You should check the T-Mobile forum.
Some people have been billed outrageous international data charges. Its
    very confusing.

Wifi is supported on several models including Pearl 8120, Curve 8320, Curve 8520, Curve 8900 and Bold.

Each of these models has a Wifi specific Browser. You can use the Browser to access web based Email and to download most content types.

Unfortunatly, it will not work with most third party applications, they are all designed to work with BlackBerry support services.

I just want to post what I have read when people use international data. The
$9.99 email plan does not include data roaming charges with T-Mobile.

    1200 dollar data roaming charge

    $990 Data roaming charges

I am going to unlock the phone and stick in a SIM from a local carrier in that country. It will no longer be affiliated with T-mobile, only that it will be branded T-mobile phone. I will make sure the local carrier disables data stuff so I don't accidentally rack up a huge amount.

As I have come to understand, both 8320 and 8120 have WiFi which can be used to access internet without one having a specific BB or data plan. Could you guys confirm this. Thanks
